Cafe Sultan in Upper Montclair. Just off Valley Road, behind Starbucks, BYO. They serve great Middle Eastern food in a friendly, casual atmosphere.

The Madison Hotel catered my wedding at the Bellwood Mansion in Madison. They were fantastic. Food was delicious and abundant. Don't know if they will cater weddings at other locations, though. Contact: Tim McHale, Catering Manager, 973-285-1800, ext. 526.

Cafe Sultan is in the parking lot behind Starbucks/Talbots on Valley Road in Upper Montclair. It's a small, comfortable BYO in the space that used to house California Pizza (I think). We love their food -- great hummus, lamb, kefta, salads, stews. The menu isn't extensive, but they usually have a couple of specials every night. I think it's fairly inexpensive for the area. We can have a nice meal for under $20/person. My husband and I almost always go early because we have a one-year old and want to disturb as few people as possible, so we never need a reservation. It usually starts to get crowded after about 8.

The Bagel Box in West Orange used to have fabulous bagels. Small, chewy, very flavorful. We'd go there on Sundays, get a dozen bagels and a free paper. It was great. But, it changed hands a couple of years ago and the new bagels aren't very good. Super Duper Bagels in Livingston is our new favorite. We've never had trouble with the owner. In fact, everyone there has always been very nice to us. I also really like their tuna salad. The only problem with Super Duper is that they are closed on Saturdays. We also sometimes go to Bagels Around the World (I think that's the name) in Montclair for bagel sandwiches. They make a good bacon, egg, and cheese sandwich.
