  1. This quote interests me because it seems to say that Europeans seem to place more value in their own tastes and what they like. So if DOCG and DOC are confusing at best, why can't Americans stop looking for a guarantee? Why can't they taste wine and form their own opinion if they like it or not? It doesn't bother me if people don't complain "about the crap on the their plate" that's their problem. It people don't like a wine they they should learn why. Maybe the wine is corked. Maybe they don't care for a particular grape type. Some people don't care to ask for help, I realize that. The sad truth is that some people are too lazy to learn and too lazy to even complain when they accept crap. If price is an issue, they should start trying wines in a certain price range and grow from there. People should learn to trust their opinions about taste rather than be told something is supposedly "good". How many times have we all heard that only to be disappointed.
  2. I agree with Gordon. It really is difficult to name the best Italian restaurant in the U.S. I dined at Felidia a year ago and it is still wonderful. I have not yet been to Babbo, (going next month, if I can get in), but I hear from many sources that it is the closest to being in Italy. guajolote, Yes, I am related to Tony. On his behalf, thank you for the compliment. Of course I'm biased, but I just think that many people don't consider "fine dining" Italian as "real" Italian. What do you think?
  3. The Wine Spectator likes Valentino because of the great wine cellar they have. To their credit, Valentino really did start it all 30 years ago by serving fine Italian wines and have continued to maintain a cellar of excellent selections. Being in the Midwest, Spiaggia is often overlooked. Spiaggia serves authentic, regional Italian cuisine with style. Spiaggia also has a great wine cellar, with many fine Italian and international selections. Spiaggia is Italian "fine dining" and does not get the attention a French "fine dining" restaurant might of the same calibre.
  4. I think that Fox and Obel has great bread.
