  1. Someone her mentioned Gartine in a previous post. I was there in September and was chatting with the woman who worked there and she said they were putting out a cookbook in Spring, She said all the yummy goodies from their afternoon tea would be in there including their amazing chocolate tart,
  2. Hi everyone, Fat Steve from America here! Going to be visiting Amsterdam in December for 10 days in advance of spending a year (or more) in the Netherlands for work. This won't be our first visit, in fact due to the job, this will be my 16th trip to Amsterdam in 5 years. I think it will be my wife's tenth. Anyway, I would like some opinions as to what the best restaurants that have opened up in the last 18 months are (thats the last time my wife visited, when I go by myself, I only eat kroketten and other fast foods ) Also, as an aside...would it be insane to live in Amsterdam and work in Hilversum?
  3. Wife and I went there on a Sunday night an had the 'Sunday Supper.' The food was actually quite good, especially for the price, however the clientele was not ideal in my opinion (as clearly the low prices had encouraged the family crowd to come out.) I have no problem with children at restaurants, it's the parties of 20 who have age ranges from 2 months to 102 years. There were plenty of well behaved children there, but two loud babies and two loud not-so-babies were quite annoying. Not to mention the older gentleman at the next table who was audibly passing wind as if it was conversation. I will be avoiding this place on a Sunday from now on.
  4. I'm not an absolute expert on food...but I'm pretty sure tuna is not a vegetable. As a jew, I don't really think it's rude, as you don't expect kosher food in a non-kosher restaurant. Same with Muslims and Halal. Therefore, I don't think this particular bit is too valid. However, the rest of what you say makes me want to run from this place...typical tourist trap...if you want a french bistro in a touristy area, that actually has decent food, I can suggest Luden on Spuistraat, they have an excellent fish soup, which perhaps your 'vegetarian' wife might like.
  5. Good lord! Your typing error was even more bizarre than theirs!!!!
