I'm surprised that nobody's mentioned Asakusa by Mornington Crecent tube. It's a little hole in the wall place, nothing fancy. But my oh my do they have fantastic sushi, noodles, etc. Most of the daily specials are stuck up on the walls in Japanese, so if you know someone who speaks it, great. If not, just get friendly with your neighbours as you might be one of the few non-Japanese eating in there. The sushi can occasionally take awhile to prepare as there's just one grouchy sushi-master there, but it's worth the wait.
