  1. I've had good experiences at Little Thai Kitchen, which is in a surprising little strip mall in Cherry Hill. When they say hot, they mean it. There's also great South Indian vegetarian (including dosas) at Rajbhog and perfectly good Vietnamese at Pho Eden. Same strip. As for Thai in Philly, after I've finished a meal at most, I ask myself, Why didn't I just get Vietnamese?

  2. Saw the previous post about crawfish in Kimberton, so I thought I'd chime in and let you know that Chris' Jazz Cafe just started doing crawfish daily. They have a nice, spicy boil going and are experimenting with different sources. The staff told me yesterday that they were expecting a shipment of 90 pounds of live crawfish from Louisiana today around noon. It's $10 a bucket (about 20 depending on size) and goes well with the $10 buckets of Coronitas, though I'm more a fan of the $2 Kenzingers... So if you're in the neighborhood tonight, there will be plenty of bugs to go around. I see a bucket of crawfish at Chris' followed by a plate of Delaware Bay salts at the Oyster house in my future.

  3. Heading to Milwaukee this weekend and I'm wondering where to eat. Seems that Milwaukee likes its fish fries, chili, gyros... what am I missing? Any strong opinions on the best in each of those categories? Looking not just for great food but also a good experience. Happy to hit the VFW posts and social clubs (Serb Hall, etc) if that's where I have to go... Any help would be appreciated.

    THANKS

  4. I was just in a play down at Old Swedes Church at Front and Christian, so the Ugly American became our official hang. We did opening night AND closing night parties there, not to mention unofficial parties till the wee hours on the nights in between. I'll let you all debate the food, but I can say that they effortlessly dealt with the throngs of people we brought in with us each night, sometimes more than 30 people in one shot. Service was sharp, professional, and friendly in that way that a restaurant that is part neighborhood tavern should be. My only complaint is that the house CD system seems to be on a switch that abruptly turns it off the exact second that you select a song on the jukebox. My friends leered at me when their tune was knocked off by my selection of Paradise City. And yo, don't knock my musical tastes.

  5. If the Sunrise Diner is on the left side of the road on the way into town and just before or after a bend in the road, that would be the one.

Also had a very good meal, though not cheap, at the Black Bread Cafe.

  6. This may be too vague to be remotely helpful, but there is a great little old school luncheonette on the left-hand side of the road going into town, just before you hit the main drag. I cannot remember the name, but I think you will know what I am talking about as you drive in. Great for breakfast.

My hubby and I are headed up there this weekend for a belated anniversary getaway.  We're staying at a cute little B&B we've frequented before.  Wondering if anyone knows any good dining establishments in that area we can go for dinner.  I've found some stuff on the web, but first hand recommendations are more reliable.

  7. Hi, I'll be in Milwaukee for a couple of days in September, and I was hoping a Milwaukee member would be kind enough to give me the lay of the land, foodwise. I'm more interested in old-school than the newest restaurants. Have time for 2 each of the 3 meals of the day. Will have a car for half the time, but that's not really an issue. Am happy to cab it.

    Thanks,

    VICTOR

  8. I'll be in Buffalo for a couple of days next week, and I'm wondering where to go for Buffalo wings. I've been told that the Anchor bar, where they were supposedly invented, is not as good as other places. Any suggestions???

My fish fry place is already arranged... obviously, there's no healthy eating to be done in Buffalo.

  9. Sorry for the vague question here, but a friend of mine is heading to Vegas tomorrow and I want her to check out this bar I went to a few years ago that had very good burgers. Here's what I remember: they definitely served a lot of Pabst Blue Ribbon. Very comfortable, neighborhood/dive kind of place. Older crowd. It was in Lonely Planet which touted it as the kind of place where judges and politicians liked to hang out. It was definitely on the outskirts of Downtown. Maybe 8-10 blocks from the "Fremont Street Experience". Any ideas?

  10. They are "hoping" for a Valentine's Day opening in Haddonfield.

fuji's website says they are moving to haddonfield, which thrills us to bits because we live within walking distance, but i keep checking on the space (in the rear of the haddonfield mini-mall) and nothing appears to be happening. last week someone else told me they were going to collingswood. anyone got any definitive scoop?

  11. I've started spending a lot of time in Burlington County lately (in Mount Holly/Lumberton), and was wondering if there's anything mom&pop/ethnic/offthebeatenpath worth checking out in the area... The only thing someone has mentioned to me is Big Ed's in Burlington (bbq). Trenton is a bit too far. Any suggestions would be appreciated... don't have any particular genre in mind... just cheap and tasty.

    Thanks
