  1. thanks for the suggestions so far. Unfortunately i can't find websites or menus for either online, but little fish had a price rating of $$$$, which means probably more expensive than you remember. perhaps dmitris if i can find out more..... i love a little mediterranian flair.

  2. Looking for a seafood restaurant in Philly that's not too expensive. My sister's boyfriend is coming and will insisting on paying for our entire group, which always makes me feel bad, so I would like to go somewhere that has good food but won't break the bank (ie, no Striped Bass, McCormick & Schmicks, etc.). I'm thinking an average entree below $20 should be ok. Also, somewhere where I'll still be able to get a reservation for this Saturday night! Thanks.

  3. Where can I buy fresh sushi-grade tuna in Northwest Philly (preferably Manayunk/Roxborough/Conshy area)? I'm only making seared tuna steaks, but since I'm a poor student I don't splurge on this stuff too often. Are the supermarkets OK for buying tuna for searing? And if so, is one better than the other (Acme, ShopRite, Giant, Clemens)? And while I'm on the subject, anyone have any ideas for a good soy-wasabi type glaze? Thanks.

This is generally a restaurant wasteland area, but if Chinese is acceptable Hunan Cottage, even though it is nothing to look at, has authentic and unusual Chinese dishes.  Make sure to ask for the Chinese menu (in English) and be adventurous!  We also have a couple of threads here touting the place:  Hunan Cottage Egullet Discussion

    I'm not too familiar with this area. If I'm coming from 46E, how far down 46 is it from where it splits with 23? Or, more easily put, how far past Willowbrook Mall? Also, I read the original thread, but we're kind of new to the "foodie" crew, but still pretty daring. Could people suggest things to order and maybe give a description of what they are? Thanks. I'm getting hungry already.

  5. I'm looking for something either Japanese (sushi) or Thai in this general area for a Saturday night. Hopefully nothing too expensive and obviously good food. I'll be driving through and don't want to stray too far off of Rts. 23/46 if possible. If the area is lacking in these cuisines, how about quality Chinese food? Please help. Also, if possible, please inform if the restaurant is BYOB or not. Thanks!!!

  6. Yes, brown and peanutty. When I've had it before it was like the watery one you described, but also had a slight peanutty flavor. Either way, both were very good, but I think I prefer the watery one just because the one I got from Binh Duong was a bit overwhelming. Thanks for the info, though.

  7. Stopped in to Binh Duong for some take out tonight-- Pho Tai and and order of summer rolls. Everything hit the spot and was put together for take out very well. Broth was still very hot when I got home and cooked the beef perfectly. Also, plenty of the garnishes were provided on the side. DEliscious (and I even have some leftovers for a late night snack!). My only problem was the sauce that came with the summer rolls-- in the past I've always had a very thin, mild sauce.... but this was much thicker and strong. What do I know though? Not much, but at least my tummy is happy again. Thanks everyone!

I just read through this as a response to my recent posting about a vietnamese craving. thanks for all the help guys! anyway, in one of those strange coincidences, i checked out the barista's page right afterwards and her top story today is about the relocation of little saigon that many of you mentioned. here's the story and the link....

    Restaurant News

    A reliable source tells us that a new Vietnamese restaurant, Little Saigon, is moving to Bloomfield Ave. in Montclair, around the corner from Glenfield School. Not sure whether this is a new incarnation of the Little Saigon that burned down in Nutley a few years ago.

    Fascino, meanwhile, announces its expansion. Maybe now it will be possible to get a reservation there without a note from the Pope.
