  1. i just hope that it's pouring rain...then I'll go.
  2. Lee appears to be getting favorable reviews...I think that's enough to provoke a re-review...as with EMP.

    Paella

there's only one decent paella in NY that I'm aware of. this isn't really the place for it. La Nacional in the Spanish Community Center.

    Esca

with the reference to the "Sicilian Lifeguard calamari" next to it...it certainly implies that crudo is fictional.

    Esca

ha! in that location they'll never be overwhelmed...except maybe on the weekends.

    Esca

fwiw, the Grimes review credits him with it.
  7. so what is waiting for a review right now? Esca tomorrow. Morandi shortly. I imagine that Bruni will also do his first self-re-review shortly -- Gilt.

    Esca

per Eater, Bruni is reviewing Esca tomorrow. Grimes gave Esca two stars (noting major inconsistencies), but if Bruni is bothering to re-review it I would imagine that he's going to bump it up to three. so, this may be the most underrated restaurant in the city no more.
  9. both of these posts were fascinating and well-argued. I guess I don't have anything to add to them. edit: I dined at Bouley Upstairs last night....and it really is a different sort of place...there is something going on here....
  10. in Manhattan the other branches of GS are all great....(some people prefer Wu Liang Ye by a small margin).
  11. also: snack taverna, Ditch Plains, Employees Only, Rare.
  12. Alto doesn't serve lunch on the weekends.
  13. I think Rivera's argument is pretty clearly that he wasn't going to say anything until Neroni talked trash.
  14. I was figuring it was this week. I was at Bouchon yesterday and there was a meeting of uniformed FOH and kitchen staff taking place outside the restaurant. still...quite the stealth approach...
  15. weekend lunch is tough...especially with most places that are open just serving ripoff brunch items (i.e. EMP). Perry Street or Bar Room at the Modern or Lupa might be the best that you can do.
  16. they deliver. I used to get it all the time, both when I worked by Grand Central and up on 51st and Madison. and I'd be surpised if they didn't deliver three avenue blocks west (I know they go that far east). Mee is Cantonese. the Cantonese menu at GSI sucks...so I assume it's the Sichuan stuff that FatAl is craving....in which case the Wu is the only option.
  17. it depends upon how you define "accusations"... He asserted several reasons for his parting with Porchetta...some of which seemed implausible at the time.
  18. Wu Liang Ye of course.

    Per Se

I believe it's exactly the same menu. It's also apparently just about as difficult to secure a reservation.
  20. on the "New Paradigm" topic, the last paragraph here is on-point: http://oad.typepad.com/oa/2007/04/how_to_spend_a_.html

    Perry Street

in my experience, the lunch menu changes at least weekly. edit: the desserts...which are not printed, appear to change daily.
  22. Boo-hoo...that's what the BOH is making without any tips. ← not here. even the fast food places pay almost double that.
  23. guys, it was a joke (the line about the policemen). there's nothing wrong with it. when we parse at that level of detail no wonder eater makes light of us. let's debate how many bluefoot chickens can dance on the tip of a pin shall we?
  24. possible examples: Italian: trippa a la romana Italian-American: spaghetti and meatballs (Spaghetti is authentically Italian and so are meatballs, but not both together) American-Italian: cioppino. there are white-wine based fish stews in Italy...but nothing quite like this dish created in CA. American: a dish I had at Eleven Madison Park in its pre-Humm days that used pasta as a textural element

    Liqueurs

update: elderflower cordial is also available in the U.S...not a syrup per se...so for syrups I guess it's just D'Arbo. D'Arbo elderflower syrup is widely available in CA apparently (and across the country)...they sell it at Ikea.
