The Lagavulin 1987 Double Distilled is a shade under the "standard" 16 YO. Retains most of the peatiness but is somehow rougher around the edges. The Lagavulin 16 YO is a more complete malt.

If you are picking up Cragganmore, make sure you also lay your hands on the 16YO (Distillers Edition). A truly remarkable malt. I frequently refer to Cragganmore as the most under-rated malt.

I have just opened a bottle of Bushmills 10 YO Malt. Rather metallic and just not up my street.

Need to get back to my Bowmores!

You could try HAIG too. Its inexpensive and eminently drinkable. Has a mildly sweet finish. Am mentioning the finish since I know of a few souls allergic to a sweet finish.

most of my overseas travel has been to south east asia.. i try and pick up a bottle of good malt whisky. selection is typically limited to bowmore, laphroaig , glenfiddich and glenmorangie.. I try and alternate between bowmore and laphraoig.

the 2nd bottle (they allow 2 bottles in India) is JW Black. The most popular drink across bar-rooms in India and a drink most people across the country would kill for. Given the desire to be a good host, the obvious choice.

I have someone coming over from Atlanta. Any advice on a whisky store in Atlanta which has a good malt collection?

Am specifically looking for lagavulin, aberlour, ardbeg.

I always thought alcohol was an excellent accompaniment to good food and was rather put off on a recent trip to a specialised biriyani restaurant in bangalore.

I always thought beer washed biriyani down really well (esp on saturday afternoons!) but the owner simply refused to even put it on his future roadmap... reason: it "de-focusses" attention from the food!

Vikram, tulleho is an extremely well marketed site. Is there scope for some serious whisky forums? Didn't see any?

cardhu? I am surprised your handbook does not list lagavulin? i have been reading Michael Jackson's book on Malt Whisky and am looking for something comparably detailed on blends. any suggestions?

interesting reading indeed. my favourites lagavulin or balvenie weren't even listed! bowmore, my introductory malt had the top rating though! I really love bowmore and have been fortunate to try some of the variations too.

however, forbes has been unfair in listing primarily the older vintages which are more often than not, out of reach. i am sure a more relevant listing was possible.
