I feel you, Jenny. We may even work in the same building ... Have you tried the Waffle Shop on 10th 'tween E and F? It's a Vietnamese-owned ghetto greasy spoon with a second Chinese menu (when Mama-san is in the house). Breakfast is served all day, and two scrambled eggs, home fries, wheat toast and a side of grits (my regular) will only set you back four dollars and change. Fair warning: the crowd can be occasionally rough, especially during peak hours when it's mobbed, although the waitresses are generally good about shooing away the aggressive panhandlers. I once dropped some change while I was paying my tab and when I stooped to pick it up, I noticed what looked like a bullet on the floor. Sure enough, it was a .22 round. (I kept it as a souvenir.) FWIW, the Chinese fare is fair, although I'm only familiar with the few vegetarian offerings. Vegetable egg foo young is a standout. Should you go, say hi to Rose. She's a sweetie.
