I'll Name the Food, You Name the Movie

Bless you, petite tête de chou, for solving a toughie!

Please don't assign numbers to your new movie foods...if a movie is solved before it gets put into a recap, it's not given a number since it's out of play.

Also, we're getting some repeat movies. Try not to use "Pretty Woman", "The Godfather", "Cool Hand Luke", "Indiana Jones and the Temple of Doom", "Fargo", "Moonstruck", "Repo Man", "Mrs. Doubtfire", "Fried Green Tomatoes" and "Dirty Dancing" as they've all been used twice.

CONGRATULATIONS TO:

-petite tête de chou for finally clearing #97 (Ahi Tuna, a glass of water...) off the board by naming it as the film "Just Friends".

************

WAITING FOR CONFIRMATION:

-FoodMan has guessed that #123 ("you know what a putenesca is? it means naughty girl's pasta"...) is the film "Mostly Martha".

-godito has guessed that #123 is the film "Made"

-WHT has gueesed that #123 is the film "Blow"

We know that #97 is not "Little Miss Sunshine" nor is it "Elf"

#123 is not "Lemony Snicket Series of Unfortunate Events" nor is it "The Goodbye Girl"

#153 is not "Legal Eagles"

************

STILL UNSOLVED AND TAUNTING US A LITTLE LESS UNMERCIFULLY:

123. "you know what a putenesca is? it means naughty girl's pasta."

CLUE: said while the character's cooking, to a little girl, who hasnt eaten yet, and is kinda lonely. it might be "bad girl pasta" that he says.

148. In a marketplace, buying pears, Brioche, grapes, fresh cheeses, wine, crusty loaves of bread, and a fresh pork hock

154. REVISED CLUE: A floor picnic of roast chicken, rudely interrupted by monetary concerns and time constraints.

CLUE: Every meal in the movie was disrupted by SOMETHING, but no other by money.

158. "I love their eggrolls" " Eat your eggs" and four perfect T-bone steaks

166. A couple enter a restaurant, and the lady goes off to the ladies' room to neaten her hairdo. She returns and is majorly P.O.ed that her gauche escort has not only ordered for himself, but is too busy gobbling oysters to rise and hold her chair.

168. BBQ. Mainly ribs featured more than once in this movie. The main character seemed to savor them very much from a certain BBQ shack.

169. Scene: Whole broiled fish served for lunch.

Host: "I hope you don't mind. I believe they should be served with the head."

Guest: "Fine, as long as you don't serve chicken that way."

****

NOTE: If you post a movie, please check back to see if the guesses on your movie are correct or not so we can keep the "Still in Play" list accurate.

Also, consider posting more clues if your movie remains unsolved.

Bingo on Chinatown, kitty cat!

That's the second Nicholson line in this thread, I believe.

How about these other gems from Jack?

* Movie 1 features The Strawberry Alarm Clock doing "Rainy Day Mushroom Pillow"

* Movie 2 involves cheeseburgers where the cheese doesn't melt right; purported greatest Italian sausage sandwich (+ "What's an Indiana Dog?"); and complaints about eggs

* Movie 3 has one of my fav Nicholson demented responses -- "Mmm, nice" -- after being served eggs "just the way you like them -- sunnyside up!"

* Movie 4 opens with a recounting of a story of non-intervention upon Grandpa choking to death on a fish bone ("breaded sole -- the crumbs only helped to conceal the bones"), with Gramps collapsing off his dining chair "looking like the remains of some chaotic dinner party."

* Movie 5 features a lot of barbequeing (as I recall)

"mmmm---nice" is the second most quoted line in The Shining, after the ever-popular "HEEEEEERE'S JOHNNY!!!"

And Ole Johnny has gotten around in this thread quite a bit already---Terms of Endearment, with its decapitated chopped-liver chicken (though he didn't do the crime), and eating Carbonara with the unclad Meryl Streep in Heartburn, as well as another unmannerly occasion. Toast and chicken goes without saying, as well.

Well done! If this thread were about "Name the booze..." I'd submit this one:

Jack: Hi, Lloyd. Been away, but now I'm back.

Lloyd: Good evening, Mr. Torrance. It's good to see you.

Jack: It's good to be back, Lloyd.

Lloyd: What'll it be, sir?

Jack: Hair of the dog that bit me.

Lloyd: Bourbon on the rocks.

Jack: That'll do her.

Lloyd: No charge to you, Mr. Torrance.

Jack: No charge?

Lloyd: Your money is no good here. Orders from the house.

Jack: 'Orders from the house?'

Lloyd: Drink up, Mr. Torrance.

Jack: I'm the kind of man who likes to know who's buyin' their drinks, Lloyd.

Lloyd: It's not a matter that concerns you, Mr. Torrance. At least not at this point.

Jack: Anything you say, Lloyd. Anything you say.

And I would add, from Easy Rider...

George Hanson: [Drinking his Jim Beam] Here's the first of the day, fellas! To old D.H. Lawrence.

[He starts flapping one arm like a chicken]

George Hanson: Neh! Neh! Neh! Fuh! Fuh! Fuh! Indians.

Shelley: Would you like some pie?

Gordon: MASSIVE, MASSIVE QUANTITIES AND A GLASS OF WATER, SWEETHEART. MY SOCKS ARE ON FIRE.

Funny that Ole Jack has been popping up so much, as that is my guess to # 166

nope.

another clue: scandal involving the said bbq shack owner's daughter and our rib-loving main character.

That should give it away if you've seen this movie.

Maybe this is pushing the topic a bit, but I just thought of a movie where something hot is swallowed, but it's not cooked. Oh, and it's ice but it's not cold.

"Fat is money." (Per a cracklings maker shown on Dirty Jobs.)

How 'bout The Hot Rock?---Not edible, but eaten, so to speak.

And YES to 166!!! The look on poor Shirley MacLaine's face under that impossible-to-repair hair is priceless, and only one of the dismayed expressions she emotes in that movie.

-insomniac for solving #169 (Scene: Whole broiled fish served for lunch.

-racheld for solving the clue " 'Mmm, nice' -- after being served eggs 'just the way you like them -- sunnyside up!' " as the Jack Nicholson film "The Shining".

She also solved the clue "a movie where something hot is swallowed, but it's not cooked. Oh, and it's ice but it's not cold" as the film "The Hot Rock".

-caroled has correctly guessed that #166 (A couple enter a restaurant, and the lady goes off to the ladies' room to neaten her hairdo. 154: Additional info:

The hero speaks to an older woman, and her comeback was quite memorable.

171: The Last Detail

172: King of Marvin Gardens

173. I dare not speak its title---it was THAT bad. Suffice to say, I would imagine that Glenn, Jack, Pierce, et al, up to and including the fabulous Slim Whitman, considered throwing Tim Burton himself onto the grill.

Please don't nitpick, Toliver---I really WON'T say the title--you don't want me to throw up on my keyboard, do you?

Since I don't know the name of the film you are referring to, I will leave it up to cinghiale, who posted the clue originally, to decide whether you've successfully solved it or not.
