I'm writing a Portuguese cookbook, and, yes, it will have plenty of Portuguese pastries.  :biggrin:

I recently came across a very old copy of "The Round-the-World Cookbook" by Myra Waldo, and was flipping through it last night. There are two dessert recipes included in the section on Portugal.

One is a fried bread dessert and the other is . . .

Leite Creme con Farofias

(Meringue in Custard)

If I have anything to say about it! But I have to carefully balance the fried stuff. A few apps, a few sides, a few desserts... How to choose?!

During the last 4 days, up until yesterday, at this place called Alcobaça, here in Portugal (120km north of Lisbon), where there is a huge 12th century gothic monastery there has been a Monastery Pastries & Licquors meeting.

Does anyone know what some of the dishes are in this photograph?

Large bowls of custard with fritters? What are the cones and the large free form tart filled with?
