Anybody try Timestrips yet?

In her weekly e-mail newsletter, Lynne Rosetto Kaspar mentioned a new product called Timestrips that she hasn't tried yet:

The technology behind the revolutionary Timestrip® works by capillary action, allowing a tinted liquid to migrate through a micro-porous material at a consistent rate.

It definitely sounds neat. I'd actually be able to estimate how long that BBQ sauce has been in the refrigerator without consulting my past social schedule. ("Let's see, did we make that before or after Grace was here?")

Anybody played with 'em yet? Got an opinion?

Yeah but..... the masking tape keeps going walkabout and if the masking tape is caged then the marking pen goes walkabout!

I just write directly on the package.

I also date batteries and light bulbs this way.

Hmm, about $10 USD (plus shipping) for 50, or about $1.73 for a sharpie and 60 yards of masking tape (at 2" per label that's 1080 labels!). $0.20 vs. $0.009 each. Still, the timestrips are kinda neat...

I keep a roll of masking tape & a mini Sharpie marker in the kitchen for lableing "date of use".

After discovering one too many biology experiments in my fridge, I keep a Sharpie close by for plastic bags and a wax pencil for jars.
