Syd's is a reasonably quick on-and-off, though if you're starting out from NYC/JC it may be too close for lunch. About 45-60 minutes west of the tunnel you can stop at the Bridgewater Wegmans if you want their buffet, though I'm sure there are better suggestions than this.

An unlikely spot for very good seafood is the Marblehead Grille, just over the border when you cross into Easton, Pa. Terrific raw bar, oysters and clams, and some really good crabcakes and fish n chips. Great place to stop for lunch! EZ on-off Rte. 78

P.S. They are closing the express lanes of 78 between the Tpke and the Pkwy for several months, and the traffic is expected to be horrific. You might take an alternate like 287 or the Parkway, if possible.

This is probably the best tip of all.

Consider getting on to Rt. 22 off of the NJ Trnpk or off of US 1 & 9 and then picking up Rt. 78 in Scotch Plains or Watchung. This will avoid that traffic mess.

if you're looking for "road food", the regional hot dog chain Yocco's is located at your half way mark.

There's a branch of the chain on PA 100, just south of I-78's Fogelsville exit.

If you're looking for a lunch that will cost more than $6, consider circa restaurant in High Bridge. Wonderful selection of European beers, and a very creative chef.

If you have over an hour to kill stop by the Cabellas Sporting goods store in Hamburg for lunch and ...uh sightseeing.

It was fun.

The great thing about barbeque is that when you get hungry 3 hours later....you can lick your fingers

Avoid cutting yourself while slicing vegetables by getting someone else to hold them while you chop away.
