Curry Ketchup - My Latest Greatest Condiment

I grabbed a bite of lunch today at Denningers, a local european grocery with cafeteria. The potato pancake I chose was a little disappointing all by itself so I went in search of something to liven it up.

There were a couple of bottles of regular ketchup, some mustard - a low and behold - a bottle of curry ketchup. Now I recall reading about curry ketchup in the last couple of days, I think it may have been while reviewing Klary's 1st blog, and I decided I had to give it a try.

I am smitten. It was very, very tasty. I of course came home with a bottle.

Now, I can think of all the usual things to try ketchup with, fries, grilled cheese sandwiches, mac and cheese, but I would love to know what folks on eG consider traditional with curry ketchup or non traditional but delicious.

I welcome your ideas.

Curry ketchup is standard here when we have beer-and-onion-boiled-then-grilled bratwurst. Usually served with tots. I have never seen bottled curry ketchup, though. I just mix it up myself using a generous amount of premixed curry powder from the Indian grocery, ketchup, and a pinch each of salt and sugar.

When we went shopping on Saturdays at the Bazaar in Lahr, there were two choices for lunch: the booth in the entrance of the store that sold ham hocks and roast chicken, or currywurst from the stand outside. I always went with the currywurst. Powerful curry ketchup and greasy wurst with a sprinkling of curry powder/seasoning salt mixture over it, all in a styrofoam box. So good.

I've seen bottled Curry Ketchup..hell I just had some a few hours ago.

Short and sweet, my Aunt and Uncle went to Germany and they brought me back a bottle of Heinz EXTRA HOT Curry Ketchup. It is not even close to hot but darn good on a Brat.

I have never heard of curry ketchup. But what a great idea. I am not very fond of just brats but brats with curry ketchup could definitely ignite my interest. And, since hubby is anti-curry everthing, I could get my curry fix while eating his beloved brats! :smile:

Wow. Sounds great.

Is it a tomato-based ketchup? I sometimes stir-fry shrimp in a ketchup-based sauce. I'd love to try using this in that dish.

Is this stuff like regular catsup (red) with curry flavor? If it is then I've been having this stuff for years. My mom brought over her taste for it from her years of living in Berlin and we serve it all the time. In Berlin it's very common to get a long, thin brat on a small roll and slather it in this sauce.
