cake in seattle?

We moved to Seattle two weeks ago and are staying in lower Queen Anne while looking for more permanent housing. My mom is visiting this weekend and I'd like to buy a cake early Saturday morning for her. Recommendations? Thanks!

Hi, welcome to the neighborhood! I live on top of Queen Anne...

I love the cakes at the Dahlia Bakery, in Belltown. If you're just having a small get together, one of their 4" or 6" cakes is perfect. I like the simple buttermilk cake. No need to special order, unless you want to... they usually have several in the case ready to go.

Dahlia is great. If you want a big, old-fashioned layer cake, try North Hill Bakery on Capitol Hill (15th E and Mercer). They always have several nice layer cakes ready to go. (Every time I stop for a cookie there's someone getting a whole cake boxed up.)

Macrina Bakery has beautiful cakes. Leslie is nominated for a pastry chef James Beard award, again.

You can also get a good cake at Metropolitan Market at the top of Queen Anne (while they are still there!)
