Something to do with cheesemaking?

Cape Town - At the foot of a flat topped mountain with a tablecloth covering it.

The top one in her photo certainly looks similar in shape.

 

As I said in my opening post, it is not primarily a whisk, although it could be used as such. It has a very specific function.

I like that idea!  I figured it was an egg beater but since stirring is only a secondary function, it has to be something else.
