The Decline and Fall of the Food Network

Las Vegas is all about cheap food.  "All You Can Eat" Buffets are a Las Vegas staple.  It allows people to put more funds toward gambling and shows.  I never had discussions with people who visit Vegas where food was the trip's main focus.

I really can't agree that Vegas is about cheap food anymore. I refused to try Emerils place in the casino considering they were charging like $22 for an entree of pork chops. It is becoming the American Amusement Park which includes horrendous prices for simple food.

Once it was about cheap food in abundance, but this ain't happening anymore.

i was in vegas 10 months ago and cheap wasn't a word i would use for any food there. Especially now with all the big names that are going out there. there are some high class restaurants out there now and you pay some high class prices for it. This chick went to a restaurant that was something like fridays i know i dont want to go to fridays on my vacation

The only thing wrong with the Food Network is the commercials - they just don't seem to have enough.

well we never want to offend the chicks with big horns tommy. We like the chicks with big horns

Interestingly, in English slang "horn" indicates an entirely different (male) body part. So when I first read the "chicks with big horns" comment, I thought you were talking about hermaphrodites.

How about "bodacious ta-ta's"?

"Save Donald Duck and Fuck Wolfgang Puck."

California was summarized for signing by

Well, I am not a big fan of Food Finds, Best Of.., or any other non-cooking show on FoodTV. The only shows that I like watching are Good Eats, Mario's shows, Emeril, Jamie Oliver's, A Cook's Tour and occasionally Gail Gand's Sweet Dreams. However FoodTv is exactly that. It is a Channel dedicated to "food" shows not "cooking" or "Cook It Yourself" shows and they are in this business for one reason only-- to make money. So if you look at it this way you would understand that while they want to be attractive to cooking shows fanatics like us they also want to attract people who enjoy food shows in general such as "unwrapped"and the abominable "$40 A Day". Maybe as someone mentioned before there should be two FoodTVs one for hardcore cooking lovers and one for food shows in general. Since I do not see this happening anytime soon (unless we fund it ourselves that is  ), I am willing to sit through thirty minutes of Food Finds so that I can get to Molto Mario.

Just my 2 cents

It's obvious from the advertisements that the programming isn't really aimed at cooks. Even during the shows that focus on cooking you're getting plugs mostly for convenience foods. And what's up with the all the music ads for the oldsters?

I enjoy watching Moulton, especially when she bosses around the guests. Occasionally she has her kids on, which is a hoot. What I really miss is David Rosengarten. Taste was a excellent show (good cookbook too.)

In the interest of doing other things (ok, hanging here), I'd been trying to limit FN to Alton, Bourdain, Mario, a bit of Sara, and the Iron Chef, although IC seemed to be in a rerun mode/loop reminiscent of an old Twilight Zone episode. Then Mom came to visit. Mom, who doesn't have FN at home. She's hooked! And it's on all the time. Yikes. Maybe they could send Rachael Ray to whatever broadcast finishing school Ming Tsai went to - if only to learn some new adjectives and just a tidbit of irony - to lose the surprise act when she's invited back to the kitchens on $40, uh, she and her camera crew. And it seems cheap to add to the Emeril dumping pile, but since this is just my $.02 - geez, dude, you need some rest. Talk about endless loop nightmares, 'bam' and 'notch' weren't bad enough, but every time I look up at him, he's got the head lowered, eyes up at ya, wiggling eyebrow at camera. Stop it. And half the food doesn't even make sense.

OTOH, I'm lovin' Tyler. And while I'm no baker, the wonderful Gale Gand's show looks go-od (I was fortunate enough to have a dessert tasting at Tru and then meet her at a book signing - she is a really pleasant person, and these days, that's no small feat).

Re: Ultimate Kitchens - hey, does loving to look in other people's kitchens make me a voyeur? If cooking shows are food porn, what the heck is that?
