South Lake Tahoe

Going over to Lake Tahoe soon for some snowboarding at Heavenly, we will be staying at the Inn by the Lake. We have dined at the Dory's Oar next door a few times, and enjoyed it. Anywhere else in this area not to miss? Which places at the casinos have the best food? Anywhere to get some really great lobster? TIA

Johnny Alamilla, ex-of Postrio, Boulevard, Farralon, and Alma in San Francisco, has opened a restaurant called Sol y Lago somewhere up there.

I enjoyed his food at Alma, (though never quite got over my mourning for the passing of The Rooster).

edited to add restaurant name.

Unfortunately, Sol Y Lago is on the North Shore.

DH and I had a memorable Wild Game meal at 19 Kitchen~Bar at the top of Harvey's. Say what you will about casino dining, it was a terrific place - head & shoulders above anything at Caesar's. Excellent service, food & wine quality. Ask for a lakeview table, and you won't be disappointed.

Thanks, we'll probably just stay around South Shore this time.  19 Kitchen sounds really nice and the kids could go to Hard Rock Cafe for their dinner.  Where is Llewyn's (sp) located and is it recommended?  :)

Funny you should ask, Llewelyn's was replaced by 19 kitchen & bar. We went there a few years back, and it was very nice, but a little "old-school." 19 is definitely more chic & current.

For lunch, there's a good local place/diner at Zephyr Cove that my friends from Carson Valley, Nevada took me to once several years ago.

And if you find yourself going over the Kingsbury Grade to the Carson Valley, there's a really good Basque restaurant called "JT's" in Gardnerville along Highway 395. All the locals (i.e., Native Nevadans) go there.

Food and I, we go way back ...
