A HK Radio Station has english recipes

HKVP Radio

I've tried a couple of the recipes and they generally work. The beef brisket was nice and clean tasting - but really salty. Will adjust next time. I love the fact that it is home cooking - like the ketchup shrimp. Such a guilty pleasure of mine!

Still - it is fun to find stuff in english for CBC's like me.

Cat (www.leisure-cat.com) makes a lot of Hong Kong style dishes and cakes and desserts.  Lots of pictures.  Recipes are in Chinese only.

http://www.leisure-cat.com/

My sister is a dedicated follower on the leisure-cat forum and there is a huge crowd of OL, housewife and young girls making dessert on that website. They really do make some spectacular sweets and stuff that I would not imagine people at home to be making. I like how they have people that are willing to come up with or test out recipes and share with everyone. The recipes(especially for dessert) that are posted are usually closer to Hong Kong taste so it might not be suitable for everyone.

Actually this website does have an English version.

They do. I did take a look at it. Their English version recipes are different (much small collection too) than their Chinese version recipes. And, my impression... not quite Chinese.

Maybe I'm just not looking in the right place but I can't find the English in the wing tat site.

Try this link:

http://www.wingtat.ca/recipes/recipes-index.htm

The way they construct their website is kind of funky. You need to access the "company profile" in order to get to the English pages.

But of the recipes they listed in English (which are different from their Chinese ones), I don't see them being typical Chinese cooking - with kebob, grilled chicken, oven-fried chickens and french fries.

Where were all these places when I first started Chinese cooking and buying all my books!

Oh --- I know. There wasn't an internet then!!!

I do go online, sometimes to research a recipe, but mostly I use my books -- my friends.

However, some of my early books, altho excellent books, are pretty standard -- like a standard menu. Lately I have been concentrating on regional books, and some of these sites have similar recipes.

That 'everything Chinese' place seems quite interesting. Lots of interesting food related subjects, plus recipes --- but I can't seem to advance the food page to the latest items, even tho I've registered.

From the ways things are going... and if Steven Jobs has his way, you might be able to buy (download) a recipe for $0.99 each right to your video IPod, along with pictorials (at least) or videos on how to cook a dish. Hey... that's not a bad business to get into. A "hzrt8w production"! Or should I use "w8trzh production"? Let me ask Oprah.

Sorry, I seem to be attracted to recipe sites written in Chinese. Here is another one, with over 100 recipes and pictures. All home style Chinese cooking. Mostly non-Cantonese style (Taiwanese style? - I am not sure).

If you don't understand it, just look at some food pictures. Click on the links to various categories on the lower left.

Finally! Found a site that offers both English and Chinese on their recipes (same set of recipes). Very authentic Chinese cooking (Hong Kong style), with pictures of finished dishes:

(Chinese version):

http://www.icare.com.hk/PC/cook/c_cook_sear_main.asp

(English version):

http://www.icare.com.hk/PC/cook/e_cook_sear_main.asp

Note that there is a "mui choy fatty pork" in the list.

I am sorry. This site does offer the same set of recipes in English.

Click on the above link and you will see a list of recipes. Click on individual recipes of your interest. The default Chinese recipe version will come up. But you can click on the "View Recipe In English" icon to obtain the English version.

  • 3 weeks later...

Found another great Chinese food recipe site:

http://www.joycekitchen.com/home.htm

In the home page, the navigation pane on the left, just click on "Recipe". Then click on "Seafood", "Poultry", etc., then click on the recipes of interest. The recipes are bilingual (Chinese(??) and English), with pictures of the finished dish.
