Breakfast! The most important meal of the day (2004-2011)

I'm cheating, this wasn't breakfast. But it's egg porn. And the leftovers will be breakfast in the morning.

Cold eggs are placed in boiling water for 6-8 minutes, and then immediately placed in an ice bath for a few hours, after which they're peeled and marinated. The white is firm like a hard-boiled egg; the yolk is unctuous and custardy.

The darker egg was marinated in diluted soy sauce with maple and ginger (too much ginger); the lighter one in diluted Louisiana hot sauce with maple and Marmite.

I'm not a photographer, and even with the macro setting, getting the halved egg in focus at all was a chore, but I wanted you to be able to see this -- I haven't had a chicken egg anything like this before; poached duck eggs, I could get to come out similarly (though softer). I guess the yolk of slow poached eggs must be something like this.

Off work today, and we had some sea scallops that never made it into dinner. I pan-fried the scallops in smoking olive oil and butter, and topped them with an improvised green curry, chile slivers, and cilantro.

I love vacation, but now I need to do chores around the house.

Oh my. That looks like a wonderful breakfast.

Thank you, Misa. Breakfast isn’t usually that extravagant.

Percy- mmm, sausage and eggs.

Bill, that yolk looks decadent. Did you marinate the eggs after peeling them?

A jar of chipotle paste caught my eye, so I beat three eggs with ground chipotle, cumin, smoked paprika, and salt. After sauteeing the chipotle paste in butter, I made the omelet in the flavored butter, sprinkled on Mexican oregano and garnished with cilantro and feta cheese. Next time I will make a drizzling sauce with chipotle paste, butter, and lime juice.

Bought some super fresh Sea Bass this morning and whilst gutting them for the freezer i decided to keep the livers and some milt that i'd found. Delicious quickly pan fried on toast with the kipper i was going to eat this morning anyway:

I was Ravenous this morning, after a loooong night of searching for my escaped horses, who turned up ON the front porch this morning looking rather smug and demanding breakfast!

Artery clogging, greasy, completely satisfying breakfast porn.........blood sausage, onions and mushrooms, (cheater frozen) hashbrowns, heirloom tomato, crusty Italian bread toast, and egg. All fried in butter and bacon greese, Of course.

Welcome back Nonblonde and glad your horses came back to you.

Found some good local bacon yesterday at a farmers market, so I slow baked them in the oven and they were ready just around the time "Sunday Morning" on CBS was running a piece on Bacon hosted by Bobby Flay.

We have moved and I have been cooking on a two-burner camp stove that I swear I will trash in high style when my new kitchen is finally functional. Breakfast has been a steady diet of kefir-blueberry-raw egg yolk smoothies, except weekends, weather permitting, when we manage to cook eggs and bacon, outside.

We bought a 1970 house that we are renovating. It's been an adventure but not one I will want to repeat. We're calling this place Road's End, for a good reason. We overlook the Mississippi Valley, and have a view that begs for many dinners alfresco.

I hope to be active again, within the month. Or next.

Percyn, your bacon sounds mouth-watering!

Lynnette, do keep us posted on your renovations, sounds like it will be beautiful.

French Onion Soup, from the pot I made a couple of days ago. Steaming and loaded with ooey-gooey cheese, crusty garlic Italian toast, and fragrant onions, Yum!

Did you spread these on the bacon before cooking it in the oven?

We buy maple bacon, but never thought of getting the desired flavor this way. Neat.

Only since you asked... My DCS wall oven is sitting atop the island; the DCS rangetop and warming drawer are likewise without a home yet, and the new refrigerator - 4 days running - died in place today. Having all these new appliances in view and not yet working is driving me insane. I do love to cook, and have been too long without my tools.

The new kitchen window was moved over 4.5 inches today to center it (as it SHOULD have been in the first place), so we step forward again... We now live in an oak wood so cabinets are dark oak, edges glazed with black; India black granite is slated to be installed in a few weeks, and all appliances are stainless. Floor is porcelain tile that fools even contractors, thinking it is slate. I think it will be a comfortable kitchen once finished. Pictures later...

Rye toast, mayo, med cheddar cheese (deli sliced) and two fried eggs. Unfortunately, one yolk broke upon cracking, the other was over cooked, so I didn't get runny yolk goodness....

Color is funny... it actually looked and tasted great!

Jamie Lee, I have the solution...I usually just cook another egg to dip it in.

Lynnette, looking forward to the pics!

Kouign Aman, Ditto

This morning, up early and full of energy, I made quiche. Tomato, bacon, caramelizid onions and mushrooms and of course, loads of cheeses!

The one I am giving to the neighbor,

My first post to this thread!

Breakfast this morning was very simple...just a poached egg on yesterday's no-knead bread smeared with some Laughing Cow Lite cheese. (I don't normally go for fake food but the LCL cheese isn't too bad.)

Not sure if the picture does the egg justice; it was just so pretty when I chopped it up that it made me immediately think of this thread! I hope it's worthy...

(You guys have the best egg porn ever on this thread...:laugh: )

I'm staring at this longingly from my desk at work.

Suddenly my fat free Campbell's Vegetable Soup isn't looking so good lol.
