Although it is Sunday, the roofers are here.

They stopped in Hackensack at B & W Bakery first though and brought us crumb cake

A very thin layer of cake which is similar to a good cream cheese pastry and nice chunky crumbs.

very nice

The great thing about barbeque is that when you get hungry 3 hours later....you can lick your fingers

Avoid cutting yourself while slicing vegetables by getting someone else to hold them while you chop away.

My ultimate comfort food is bricklayer’s eggs (huevos al albanil) from Diane Kennedy. Toasted pasilla and guajillo chilies are steeped in boiling water and pureed with garlic and white onion (I used shallots). Fry the chile paste until dry, and then lower the heat and mix in the eggs. Serve on flame-warmed flour tortillas topped with feta cheese and Mexican oregano.

Bruce, that sounds and looks delicious. The chilies probably give this dish a great depth of flavor.

Percy, thanks. Yes, the depth flavor is what I crave in this dish. It is like quick and easy mole, thickened with eggs rather than ground pepitas, etc.

Free-range pancakes and organic molasses with a local farmer's fresh butter. Rain Forest Costa Rican coffee. Delicious!

Oats Glorious Oats!

On a rainy autumn day in New England...

...nothing hits the spot like a nice hot bowl of oatmeal. Today’s fare is Quaker's old fashioned oatmeal with raisins, walnuts, and a splash of cream. Bursting with nutty goodness. Plus the cholesterol lowering benefits of oats.

Couldn't agree more, Parmhero, it was oats for me too this morning - Piping hot with apple, cinnamon and toasted walnuts then a little salt over the top for that little bit extra.

I like my porridge or "oatmeal" a little bit loose, finishing the bowl by scooping it out with a thin slice of rye bread.

Please take a quick look at my stuff.

Oats for me too - jumbo oats mixed with some of a multigrain mix and a pinch of salt. Along with a massive mug of tea, this is what I have almost every morning.

Oohh, and there's nothing quite like the sight of those pancakes running free across the plains....... They sure do make an odd sound though......

Despite eating as well as I ever have in my life, I've managed to lose over 10lbs in the times that I've been in Seattle so, to celebrate, I decided to have a nice, indulgent, over the top breakfast:

Pan Roasted Potatos, Sauteed Onions, Asparagus, Eggs and Bacon all fried in Bacon Fat.

And because no breakfast shot is complete without gratuitous egg porn:
