So they're like onion rings, but made out of chicken? That actually sounds really good, but it would be better if one ring had both onion and chicken in it... now that would be progress.

Although hmm, fried meaty rings, maybe they are trying to prep the market for an eventual introduction of White Castle Calamari ;).

What I find disturbing is how they get the chicken into the ring shape. What are they actually doing to the meat? We all know that chicken doesn't come with rings.

well i suppose "tenders" could be that bit connected to the breast. but i doubt it in most cases. although i think they're often just thinly sliced breast meat, as opposed to the multi-ingredient rings, nuggets, and stuff like that. unless it's BK, then yeah, it's probably extruded or molded or something fancy.

They do it the same way that Burger King makes its "onion" rings.

good point ghostrider. i can't imagine that any onion rings that we eat at most places are actual rings of onion. they're very likely processed. but so is pork roll, and i like that a lot.

I'm with Tommy-I am huge fan of W.C's onion rings. Big juicy rings of onion in a crunchy not too greasy coating. But some stores are serving the crappy onion mush variety. I hope it is not a portend of things to come. There is just something wrong by going to WC and eating chicken and not the burgers. Won't eat any chicken finger, nugget or ring. Too much grease and fat without the yum factor-gotta go for the burger.

Hey, let's not knock the chicken rings without tasting them, ok? There's nothing that hits the spot at 3 in the morning after sitting in a packed drive through in EO then a Sack of Chicken Rings with a Sack(or two) of Cheeseburgers. You wouldn't believe how many people are at the WC at that time of day(errr night....morning?)

Yeah, I was about to point out the one place on a chicken that would naturally be shaped something like a ring...

Then I remembered - That's what McDonalds uses for the McNuggets

Who doesn't like mechanically seperated chicken? These ringed nuggets are made the same why McNuggets are made. They all come from the same bucket of goo.

I had an opportunity to try them a year ago and they weren't any worse regular chicken nuggets from Wendy's or McD's.

This is actually an old product, not a new one. White Castle has had them for years. As Klink says, they do indeed taste the same as every other similar product. Not bad, not good. Just... as a plank for sauce and breading mostly.

I think it's probably a new genetic hybrid that has crossed a chicken with a squid and yielded tubular boneless bodies on chicken. Yum. Just think of the possibilities.

I don't bother with onion rigns that don't have real whole rings of onion in them but then again... I rarely get fast food and that's most likely why I don't encounter them. I typically get onuion rings when getting food at oen of our local independent fish fry places. They all use real rings of onion.

I can't speak to that because I've never been to a White Castle - seriously, I haven't, not once in 5 decades. But I think that what is new is the saturation-level TV ad campaign for those blighted chicken rings.

(BTW, growing up in St. Louis, we never saw any need to drive to White Castle when there was a Steak & Shake much closer to home. These days I'd drive past a dozen WCs to get to a Steak & Shake.)
