New York Magazine on Long Island Wines

Recommended Posts

whatever happened to Pindar? I have fond memories of visitng their winery and i see no mention of them in these articles.

in the print version pindar was mentioned with duck walk and martha clara as being the anthesis of paumanok and lenz - mass-production, industrial wines.

what i want to know is where is osprey domain and pugilese?

Nothing is better than frying in lard.

Nothing.  Do not quote me on this.

Cupcake250: Date? Location?

I saw that article this morning at my dentist's. Interesting. Our favorites include Schneider, yes, their Cab Franc, and Paumanok Chardonnay (Barrel Select and the lesser but excellent Festival) and Chenin Blanc. The Macari Brut is as good as they say, too.

The article mentioned Vintage New York -- what a great store! You can taste everything in the store, and while the tastings cost, they apply it against your purchase. They've got Long Island, Hudson Valley, Finger Lakes -- and a kosher wine from "the Western end of Long Island" (aka Brooklyn) that was actually drinkable. BTW: one of the owners of Vintage New York is the former wife of the guy from Quilted Giraffe: her name is Susan Wine. No kidding.

Outstanding in the Field Farm Dinners & Tours will have Christopher Tracy of Channing Daughters Winery as the guest winemaker at a farm dinner and tour at Quail Hill Community Farm in Amagansett on Sunday, September 26. The guest chef is Seth Caswell, of Nick and Toni's, as recommended by chef Dan Barber of Blue Hill.

Channing Daughters provided some of the wine at the OitF dinner at which Dan Barber was guest chef last October at Stone Barns Center for Food and Agriculture in Sleepy Hollow.

Time/cost details are at the OitF site, linked above.
