This from Barbara Jo's Books to Cooks latest newsletter:

Anthony Bourdain:  a memorable event in Yaletown

A Vancouver exclusive event! Food Network’s TV personality, foodie hunter, witty food writer and Executive Chef at Les Halles restaurant in New York city, Anthony Bourdain, is in town promoting his new Les Halles Cookbook.  Join us for a memorable cocktail reception at none other than Vancouver’s own French Brasserie, the Elixir Restaurant at the Opus Hotel.

Or perhaps, join us later that evening at Bar None, where the town’s foodies will mingle, and the passionate Anthony Bourdain will mesmerize and charm.

A portion of all proceeds will benefit the B.C. Centre for Ability.

Please note: Tickets only available at Books to Cooks.  All of Anthony’s previous publications will be available for purchase at both events.

Reception at Opus – 322 Davie Street

Ticketed event

Friday, November 5, 5:00 to 7:00 pm

95$ includes a copy of the book

Les Halles after hours at Bar  None – 1222 Hamilton Street

Ticketed event

Friday, November 5, 8:00 to 10:00 pm

50$ includes a copy of the book

Anyone coming with me??

Wow, what a blast.  I think I'll skip directly to the Bar None portion of the evening.

What about a Vancouver eGullet dinner after Opus? Enough choices in that part of town to be sure

From what I've read in his books, and seen on TV, I doubt I could keep up with him in the liquor department!

Great Idea, somewhere in Yaletown...something fun! I am in.

My Vote: Best Steak in Yaletown = Hamilton Street Grill.

(great Mojito as well)

Do I have time to make the real stuff?

Very cool....

who is doing the media and how do we get this going?

I will donate my time....

Barbara-Jo is sponsoring the event. Perhaps Mr. Bourdain would be interested in sampling some of Chef Fowkes efforts ... especially considering the great post that started it all.. There's several eGullet angles to be sure.

 I will do my part, who has the connection to make this happen? I have contacted Neil at the Hamilton Street Grill and he can make this a go...he has a brilliant, private room (as well as a really cool 'old world' drinking bar). I will donate my time, Neil will offer a great deal…

What is the next step?

Maybe a sampling of Canadian Food and Libation!

1. Tortiere

2. Caribou sirloin roast

3. Bear tenderloin

4. BEER!

5. BC Wines…in particular the new great; Osoyoos Cab! 10/10!

6. Deer kidneys

7. Elk strip loin

8. Moose flank (cured and smoked)

9. …real duck (...and the foie)

10. Fresh wild Sockeye (served raw, cured!)

11. Abalone

12. SPOT PRAWNS!!!!

13. Sea asparagus

14. Halibut Cheeks

15. Local Beach Oysters

16. Quail

17. Canadian Grouse (aged 45 days)

18. Sweet potatoes

19. Anything wheat…

20. Montreal smoked meat

21. Sturgeon

22. Poutine

23. Safe raw eggs…liaisons and hollandaise

24. Alberta Prime (AAA and AAAA beef…YES!); big fatty Rib Eye, T- bone, Delmonico!

25. Goose rillette

26. Truly organic vegetables

27. Fresh frog legs (…cannot find these in France anymore!)

28. Wild boar

All the above served:

i. Cured

ii. Smoked

iii. sausage

This would be great! I cannot wait.
