Chinese BBQ'd Spare Ribs

Recommended Posts

King Yum in Fresh Meadows, Queens. Although the ones at the Char Siu/Duck shop in the East Buffet complex in Flushing are really good as well.

You might think Im crazy here but Noodles on 28th has great ribs. Meatier and leaner than most, they have a slightly reddish sugar based crust that crisps up nicely under the broiler and the meat stays tender and properly "porky."

Just to be clear, the ribs are not fall-off-the-bone tender but instead a bit firm and chewy. If you go, try asking them for your order "cut in half" resulting in bite sized ribs. Overall, Noodles is NOT a great (or destination) Chinese restaurant, but their ribs rock.

Sorry to answer a question with a question, but how are the ribs at Nancy Lee's Pig Heaven on Lexington in the 80s? They have sections of their menu listed "Pg" and "No Pig," and I have friends in the neighborhood who love the place. (Plus, they serve pigs ears.) So I'd be curious if anyone thinks they're a contender. (They're easier for a midtown visitor to reach than Queens or Riverdale, frankly.) Only thing I've had there was listed "sliced barbecue" but was really more like country ham in a sweet/salty sauce.
