i am in the process of minimizing and have some cookbooks that i can no longer use. if anyone would like them, please pm me with your snail mail address and i will drop them in the box. right now i have 4 available:

Lancaster County Cookbook

My Own Cook Book - Gladys Taber

Peter Hunt's Cape Cod Cookbook

The Luchow's Cookbook

I would rather send them to a good home with one of you than drop them in the local library book sale.

Inspired by Suzi, I went through my cookbooks over the weekend and pulled out some that I want to give away. I have posted the list on the India Forum since most of the books are Indian. Please feel free to go look.

I have "In the Kitchen with Rosie" -- it's the one by Oprah's personal chef. A great diet hint I got out of there was for mock Ceasar salad dressing that I usually prefer more than the real thing: equal parts soy sauce and fresh lemon juice with mashed garlic and ground pepper. But, anyway, if you're an Oprah fan, it's a good book.

My bookstore is now officially closed. The last of these are going ot the library book sale.

I'm surprised there wasn't more interest in this. I'm glad to get rid of the books I did but I would have thought others would have had similar lists.

As a beneficiary of this thread, I want to pass the favor forward. Here are my offerings. PM me with your address if you're interested. First come, first served.

Penny W. Eisenberg, Passover Desserts

Andrew Schloss with Ken Bookman, While the Pasta Cooks (100 Recipes so easy you can prepare the sauce in the time it takes to cook the pasta)

New American Heart Cookbook full of oh-so-healthful takes on recipes that I know I'll never cook. It has calorie counts, grams of fat and carbohydrates, and so on. Who(m) was I kidding? :raz:

Edited to add the last cookbook, and again to remove a claimed cookbook. Apologies to those who've already quoted me.

I intended to get back to this thread before now, but I got distracted by the heartache of Katrina coverage, etc. However, in the meantime, I went for the Sheila Lukins book from Smithy and sent her a trade, an old Good Housekeeping cookbook. We were both happy with the exchange.

So, now I have the following books up for adoption. Please send me a PM if you want to provide a good home to any of these:

Italian Family Cooking by Edward Giobbi, 1971 (old/used);

Italian Cooking Made Easy by 'Round the World Books, 1979 (old/used); or

Truffles, Candies & Confections by Carole Bloom, 2004 (new/barely used).

Life is short; eat the cheese course first.

My New American Heart Cookbook is now taken. This leaves me with

- Passover Desserts and

- While the Pasta Cooks

I'll add another. I have a spare copy of the Cooking Club of America's Celebrate! The Holiday Cookbook, complete with lovely photos and menus for various occasions. Warning: this particular copy was poorly printed, and the colors didn't always line up, so some of the print makes you think you need glasses, or that your hangover is worse than you thought. Still, if you can get past that it has some nice ideas.

Once again, thanks.
