L'Auberge Chez François

Recommended Posts

Both my wife and I have had the onion soup at L'auberge. It is NOT Lipton's but rather seems to incorporate a homemade stock.

Rather than Lipton's, I always use Knorr onion soup mix in the brasing liquid for my famous pot roast (mom's recipe). That and Swanson beef broth. They probably use the Lipton's for staff meal.

The point is that they have very good French Onion soup with flavor that Lipton's will not give you. I've used some Knorr seasonings before and found them to really be surprisingly good. We probably disagree on the the broth. I believe that nothing takes the place of a long cooked stock reduction.
