What We're Cooking for Shabbos: 2004 - 2006

That vegetable tiella sounds so good, I  wonder, what less expensive cheese we could use in place of the Parmesan?  Shabbat Shalom everyone!

I once made a single portion without cheese for a friend who *says* he doesn't like cheese (but I see him eat pizza so go figure.) I don't think it was as good. You could probably play around with another type of cheese. The recipe is pretty forgiving and even in the end, there really isn't a strong cheese flavor. I figure it works out to be like what happens when you add a Parmesan rind to a pot of minestrone soup.

You could bump up the basil or even add some parsley or maybe some mushrooms (as was suggested in the recipe intro.)

I'm a bit burnt out from all the cooking I did for the holidays so dinner tonight is a combination of left-overs and new stuff.

Salad of Arugala and Spicy Southwestern Bison Sausage (new)

Roasted Cheese Pumpkin-Cider Soup (l/o)

Herb-crusted veal shoulder roast (l/o)

Roasted fingerlings (new)

Marcella Hazan's Cranberry Beans (new)

Poached Pears

I've got the remains of a bottle of Chenin Blanc in the fridge from the pears so we'll drink either that or a sauvignon blanc.

Lunch with be gefillte fish with chipotle mayo and then chili.

I never ever in my life thought I would see the words "gefilte fish" and "chipotle mayo" in the same sentance, never mind the same dish

My daughter made Shabbat dinner. We had the most delicious meatloaf, half ground turkey, half ground lamb, and she put a minced onion and a minced tomato in the loaf as well as fresh oregano, then she planed a zucchini and used it as a base and garnish for the meat. It was really a nice presentation, and she plated beautifully, too. The challah was, well, she made it with love! Nothing has ever been better than the Shabbat I had with kiddle this week.
