Why is it true, the old saying: "Liquor before beer, never fear; Beer before liquor, never sicker"?

Because it is true. If I have, say, a couple of shots of reasonably decent vodka and then move on to beer, I don't have a hangover, but if I have a few beers and then the shots of vodka, I have a headache half the next day.

Any idea why? :wacko:
