Confession Time: Share Your Culinary "Sins"

This all reminds me of the great battered burger served in British fish 'n' chip shops.  It's not usually much like a regular beefburger - it's usually more a rather pasty-looking kind of patty - close to Spam - but the important thing is that it is deep fried in the same kind of batter as the fish.  Needs plenty of salt.  Hellishly greasy.  You can get a British-style breakfast sausage fried the same way.  I used to eat this stuff when I couldn't afford the fish.

Pot stickers? What's wrong with pot stickers?

As for fried bologna, in Canada these are known as Newfie steaks after their prominent role in the basic Newfoundland meal of boiled potatoes, boiled green cabbage, and fried bologna. Can't say I've indulged.

DStone, I just fry bologna in it's own grease. And just like salami you know it's ready when it curls up around all edges.

Wilfrid, liverwurst is a fine substitute if one doesn't have bologna on hand. I personally have been known to use mayo as a dipping sauce for roast chicken.

No... eggs would ruin it! :)  The point of fried salami on white bread is the elemental simplicity of it.

Actually, it sound okay.  But the fried Salami by itself works as well.  My grandfather always used to insist that the Salami (especially the Hebrew National) worked better than bologna.  Something about the fat being better.

My only real innovation was to start toasting the bread.

I confess to eating sugar smacks for dinner a couple times a week. Sometimes I eat two bowls. And to make it even worse, I give my cat my leftover sugar smack milk when I'm done. She gets all excited when she hears the smack box being turned over. Like Pavlov's dogs.

The irony of the use of the word "smack" in this context is not lost on me. :)

Today I had a bowl of Campbell's Chunky Sirloin Burger soup for lunch.  I'll bet someone else here likes this stuff.  I grew up on it, and I'm coming off a flu and knew it would be the perfectly comforting thing to hasten my recovery.

Has anybody - and I'm thinking A Balic - sampled the notorious Scottish delicacy, the deep-fried mars bar?

I have eaten Pizza in Scotland served in the traditional manner where the frozen pizza is lobbed into a deep-fryer till it's done. After that you never want one of those effete wood-fired ones again.

But I belive deep-fried mars bars must take that experience further - so much further.

Thought I'd better warn you...  my brother-in-law opens and eats, at one sitting, an entire can of Eagle Brand Milk.  He and my sister have a cat and although sugar is not a natural part of a cat's diet, he also likes the sweetness of Eagle Brand.  So my bother-in-law and the cat sit there eating it together.

Now the cat has diabetes, and has to have insulin shots daily.

I don't understand why rappers have to hunch over while they stomp around the stage hollering.  It hurts my back to watch them. On the other hand, I've been thinking that perhaps I should start a rap group here at the Old Folks' Home.  Most of us already walk like that.

McDonald's French fries are the best fast-food French fries of all. Doritos! Arby's roast-beef sandwiches! However, my real guilty pleasure is the Taco Bell enchirito (a Frankenstein's-monster co-mingling of an enchilada and a burrito). Yum-yum!

Fluffernutters were my only craving when I was pregnant, which explains a lot about Mamster. The most ignominious moment of my cooking or parenting was when my kids told me Daddy made better Kraft Mac and Cheese than I do. His secret: He adds a slice of American cheese(the kind individually wrapped in plastic). Now,my guilty secrets include Snoballs. These are so-called round cupcakes with rubber frosting and finely grated sweetened cocnut They change the colors for the season i.e. orange at Halloween,Kelly Green for St. Pat and bright pink for something. I have a friend who calls them pink tits. Wilfred, even seeing the MacD's burgers in a TV ad makes me nauseous. Really,I think anything eaten standing up by the light of the fridge qualifies, but Franco-American spaghetti, cold out of the can  is way awful.

Jaymes, thanks for your kindly expressed kitty concern. Diana only gets less than a spoonful of milk when I eat a bowl of Smacks, 'cause I know that milk and sugar aren't good for her digestion. So I think she'll be okay.

Lately I'm less on Smacks as a guilty meal. Now I eat toasted baguettes with Plugra butter and jam if I'm so hungry I must have food immediately and can't be bothered about fixing something decent.

Well, I'm sure a few spoonsful of Sugar Smacks milk is nothing like half a can of Eagle Brand.  Hard to imagine anybody'd be so dumb, ain't it.

Jaymes, is there a different technique used for eating milk as opposed to drinking it.  Do you have to chew Eagle brand?

Just wanted to know, in case I was missing an exerience.

I think I mentioned previously that we named our dog fluffernutter.

I have not met a single person in the state of Texas that has ever heard of the fluffernutter sandwich.  I usually just get a blank stare when I tell people the dog's name.
