I was also about to mention that they misspelled her name. ONE "L" please! I did a happy dance when I saw that Alison was nominated. She has brought some real class to the Chronicle.

Linda LaRose aka "fifi"

I was very happy to see my friends Alison Cook and John T. Edge nominated as well.

Also great to see my buddy and former Austin Chronicle restaurant reviewer Pableaux Johnson nominated for his wonderful piece in the Gambit (New Orleans) on Anthony Uglesich. He was spending the night at mi casa in Houston on his way to SXSW when he got the news, so we had a toast or two.

Former Austinite Conde Cox, who now lives in Oregon, is up for a magazine writing about wine and spirits award.

Thanks to everyone for alerting me to the nominees I missed. I have added to the first post Kent Rathbun, Bruce Auden, and Alison Cook, who I overlooked on first posting due to my wonky monitor and zipping though the list a little too fast. And Robb's post above covers the ex-pats.

I remember reading the D piece on Oysters. Didn't some people die? Anybody remember the restuarant?

Two people died and it was at one of the Half Shells or Rockfish locations (I believe they are owned or were owned by the same people). Anyway, the point of the article was more about the dangers of eating raw oysters ANYWHERE rather than something the restaurant did specifically wrong or dangerous.
