Usually I don't get on the fence like this. I either love yah, or hate yah. :raz: With Ina, I can't tell. I like her food and she cooks very simply, but her delivery drives me insane. Everything she makes she wants the viewer to think they'll have an orgasm when it comes out of the oven. I'm like..."It's a fricken CHICKEN for cornssake!" :rolleyes: And the constant "Uaugh!! This is going to be sooo goood! Aauaghh!! Augggh!!" after everthing she says is annoying as hell too. There's something a bit.... smarmy about her and I haven't put my finger on it. I think in the deep crevices of her mind, she's a Cruella DeVille type cook. She thinks her food is so sublime she'd gladly poison anyone who gets in her way. She's almost feindish when she serves her husband and all her friends--they'd better carry epi-pens and antidote for rat poison. :cool:

I'll definitely add affirmative to flavorsome recipes. We crash on people so much sometimes that I wonder if JC had not been the founding goddess of the genre, and starting out now, how would she be received? Or is that sacreligious to say, or spew such heresy?

you obviously haven't ever seen Nigella. Talk about having an orgasim while she's cooking. Really annoying ooohs and ahhhs.

Actually I am a huge Nigella Lawson fan. I think her culinary Big "Oh's!!" are far more sincere than Ina Garten's fakey ones. Nigella doesn't NEED for you to like her food. Matter of fact, I don't think she'd care if you refused one of her dishes. She'd get out a big bowl and pour you some Cheerio's. Ina'd beat you over the head with a salami. :laugh:

I like Ina. She makes food that is simple tastes good and my family will eat. She acts like someone you could party with. One thing that does get on my nerves is when she laughs and sucks in her breath. I love her house and kitchen.

I adore those little sprouts of Nigella's. When she made the after school snacks and they sat there and shaved their own cheese and passed it around, it stole my heart. She (Nigella) has had a very bittersweet life that was made very public. A real woman's woman IMHO.

In a network populated with Sandra Lee, Emeril "Bam" Lagasse, Rachael "30 Minute Shit" Ray, Paula "Droolin' Hillbilly" Dean, And the gastronomic authorities, Dweezil and Lisa, I find Ina Garten's program to be among the best. Her Oohs and Ahs don't bother me in the least, because the woman can cook.

Ina Garten doesn't make crap, she doesn't spank herself while shouting "Pork fat rules!" in front of a studio audience, she doesn't take make beef bourguignon in 30 minutes, she doesn't make Aunt Bea look like a carpetbaggin' yankee, and she knows more about food than anything else. The woman likes things with flavor. The woman can cook.

Plus, if you want really annoying personality in the kitchen, I could always recommend you go visit my mother-in-law.

My only beef with Nigella is with her high-priced line of kitchen equipment. Totally impractical. The cup measures aren't scoop and level -- there is a fill line on the inside. So a 1/4 cup measure holds more than 1/4 cup, if scooped and leveled. And who could whip cream or whisk egg whites in her Zeisel knockoff mixing bowls? They are sperm-shaped. Oi!

I am admitably the world's worst consumer of 'celebrity' products. And I think if a manufacturer wants you to be an unpaid advertiser of their goods, they should give you the stuff. But I'm an ornery OB, as fifi calls us (BY the way, fifi, that does mean old bat, doesn't it?)

This is one of the times I am really glad Japan doesn't have the Food Network, I can enjoy their booksand recipes without the personality attached.

I love Ina's stuff, as well as Nigella and Jamie too..... :biggrin:

I like Ina. I have all three cookbooks and have had good results with every recipe that I've tried. I can see how her Oohs and Aahs can be annoying, but I do believe she is sincere. She obviously loves to eat her food. I believe Nigella really loves to eat as well, I love her straightforward style. Her book Eating Well was like a glimpse into her personal eating habits which made her all the more likeable. What really gets me are the ultra toothpick thin chefs with orgasmic reactions over their full fat high carb recipes. It is hard to imagine them really enjoying their own food. I understand that with moderation and an active lifestyle you can enjoy good food and maintain weight - but a few of these people look like they haven't eaten in months!!
