Note French Laundry is closing before Xmas and moving to New York - not sure precisely in what form in will be.

It will only be closed for four months, while they get Per Se up and running in NYC.

Depending on the relative size of my next income tax refund, I'm looking to come to NYC again in May 2004, this time for a full week if I can. The list this time begins with:

Le Bernardin

Aquavit

Veritas (my experience there last year was so wonderful, I want a rematch!)

Suvir's new place (I blush: I forgot the name)

...and I'm thinking about some others.

Me, I vote for the joyride every time.

Spring. I don't think too many people would argue with that. I personally really liked Arun's but some other people don't seem too keen on it. Ixcapuzalco.

I would love to eat again at Lotus Of Siam in Vegas. The depth of the menu has ruined me from most Thai places.

I have heard so many great things about Lola Tasting room in Dallas that I have to get there. It's $65 for 15 courses and the menu changes monthly. What a deal! And I think you can add wine tasting for a smallish fee.

In Chicago I would like to hit Trio. I would also like to catch a dinner and Gennaro's for the old chitown ambiance, if you know what I mean.

I also plan on eating more Indian/Pakistani food. I love the stuff but its hard to get people to hit these ghee indulgent pungent spice joints during lunch time.

I'd suggest Heat for Japanese.

I really hadn't thought about this. If I don't get to Amma before 2004, I will go then.

Craftbar intrigues me after lxt's review, but I don't know how expensive it is.

If I get back to Santa Barbara this winter, I'll look forward to returning to La Super-Rica.

Otherwise, I figure to eat in some new places in the East Village, Chinatown, Little Korea, probably Flushing and Jackson Heights, and perhaps Downtown Brooklyn. The only travel I have vaguely planned is a winter trip to LA, SB, and SF, and possibly a brief visit to Boston at some point. My brother and other relatives and friends will take me places in California, and the trip to Boston is (1) to visit a couple of friends; and (2) to visit the city (walk around, see museums). I haven't given any thought to where I'd eat while in Boston, because the trip is just a possibility at this point.

Highly recommend trying Bymark -- haven't had a bad meal yet and service has seriously improved in the last year. North 44 hasn't really been up to it's usual standards in the last 6 - 8 months....might leave it for now.

I went to the Coney Island location several times last year before Brooklyn Cyclones games, and if it's gone downhill, I would love to have eaten there in its prime. I thought their pizza was awfully good.

Or did you mean the Manhattan location? I've heard it's not as good as the original, though I've never eaten there.

That's reassuring! No I had heard that the kids were ruining the business and Totonno's in general has gone downhill. But yeah, I also heard the Manhattan location was pretty bad.

I talked with his son for a while--it's still the same coal-fired oven and of course he's using the recipes. The main difference seems to be that they don't just lock the door when the dough runs out.

Again, though, I don't have a long-term basis for comparison.
