Clubs unhappy about proposed tax on drinks

... not happy about the latest revenue-raising idea being kicked around at the state Capitol -- extending the state's 6 percent sales tax to beer, wine and liquor sold by the glass in bars, restaurants, taverns, fraternal clubs, hunting lodges and volunteer fire companies around the state.

******

In Allegheny County, "liquor by the drink" would be taxed at 7 percent, if the plan is approved once the Legislature returns Nov. 17. In Philadelphia, there already is a special 10 percent additional tax placed on liquor sold by the drink, which would likely have to be removed if the sales tax is extended to alcoholic drinks statewide.

:hmmm:

All alcohol served in bars and restaurants including beer and wine in glasses, bottles or whatever, in NYC is taxed at 8.5% as if it was food.
