Dang, I can't make that Burger Joint trip - I'm running a Food Festival the next day, and I'll be spending all day Friday & Saturday cooking... but have fun guys!

This thread is a great read.  I just wanted to add a suggestion - Happy Burger on the UWS. The place is a dive, but the burgers always do the trick when I have a craving.

Welcome to Burger Club, BJL. Quote the list and ass you suggestion to the bottom if you'd like.

Oh lauren, sorry you can't make it. There'll be MANY more you know. Now what's this about a food festival, missy?

 That would be ADD you suggestion to the botom.

You are testing my computer skills with this one - my forte is eating, not typing. Here goes! And happy burger hunting all.

Is Happy Burger the place on Broadway between 92nd and 93rd?

Yes, that's the place on Broadway. Scary little establishment, but a great burger. It even holds up well on delivery. Although it doesn't hold a candle to the Pipers Kilt in Eastchester.

I've not been to this one, but the Piper's Kilt in Inwood is tremendously good. Of course, I do get the "Eastchester" burger when I'm there--that's the one with the chili on the side.

Oh lauren, sorry you can't make it. There'll be MANY more you know. Now what's this about a food festival, missy?

I'm running a Star Trek-themed food festival - we do it every year and it gets in the South Jersey papers for the "wierd factor".

I'm learning culinary foams and rolled fondant work in prep for this, to ramp up the visual appeal and recreate dishes from Star Trek. I'm also doing very bizarre things with nori.

I'll do a "My Big Fat Geek Food Festival" post afterwards...

I think you just found your new signature, lauren.

LOL, too true.

I'm making Algae Puffs as an hors d'ouevre. Don't ask.

You're in south Joisey?

Well, I live in Central Joisey, but the folks I run the festival with are mostly in Ocean County, so we have it in Seaside Heights (a very depressing place this time of year, so having a few of us running around by the shoreline trying to force each other to eat durian kinda livens things up!)

Yes, folks, this festival was where the whole "Deadly Durian" reputation of mine got its start. Many casualties.

Only been to Seaside Heights once. I can imagine the shore being sorta cool right now. All the tourists gone and stuff.

What does durian have to do with Star Trek? Did someone make a comment about it being a fruit from the show or something?

As a centerpiece for the table, I assembled a collection of the stranges fruits and vegetables that I could find (a common prop trick on Trek). Kiwano, squashes, some w/blossoms, things like that. And the focal point was the durian, a fruit as strange smelling as it is looking.

Now most of this stuff is recognizable to wacky folks like me, but to the average joe it's downright otherworldly.

Well folks were slicing up the other fruits over the course of the festival, and eventually the crazed "pro chef in residence" we call Iron Trek Chef took his cleaver and chopped that durian open! It was like a stink bomb!

It was quickly escorted outside where it had several adventures before going in the dumpster, including a 6 1/2 foot tall guy dressed as a Klingon chasing a man dressed as an Andorian down the beach across the street with this thing.

Yea, that's about what I figured once I actually thought about it for more than the time it takes me to type it.

alacarte, laurenmilan and herbacidal... if I may step in with my moderator hat on: please keep it about NY burgers in here. OT talk is for PMs and the Member Bios, and other food-related topics are for other threads. Thanks!
