Australian Gourmet Online Food Shops

Recommended Posts

A friend of mine recently got married in Auckland (where he now lives). I couldn't make it to the wedding (I am in the UK) but would like to send him some wine as a wedding gift. Can anyone recommend a good on-line wine store where I can buy wine for delivery to him.

Any suggestions as to what to send would also be appreciated! I was thinking of Champagne but I guess the French stuff will be expensive over there - which good NZ sparkling wines would you recommend?

Thanks in advance.

Nicola

As I'm also in the UK, I can't advise on online wine ordering services in NZ, but in terms of kiwi fizz, I like Cloudy Bay Pelorus (vintage 1996 very good if that's still around), Daniel LeBrun Brut and Huia. But the best southern hemisphere fizz I've had is Australian, from Tasmania - Piper's Brook Pirie - I'm sure a good NZ source would have it.

If you're not tied to fizz, I know that the Felton Road winery in Central Otago (which makes, to my taste, fabulous pinot noirs), has online ordering on its website (www.feltonroad.com). There may be a minimum one case order though. I've ordered from them for UK delivery and they're very helpful.

cheers

Adam

Hello from Auckland, Nicola ... Champagne is not really all that expensive over here; typically in the 20 to 35 pounds range. For example Bollinger NV sells at around $NZ95.

Here are 2 good online wine buying options for you to try:

Fine wine online

Wine Direct

As for NZ Methodes, Pelorus is certainly good - mainly the 1998 vintage now available...

Greetings!

I would like to know of any gourmet online food shops that are Australian. If anybody can recommend some good ones selling things like olive oils, spices, french/swiss chocolate, italian pasta, coffee etc.

I would really appreciate it.

Many Thanks,

Lisa

I have also found the Simon Johnson stores to be vvery efficient. They also have the best range of high-end products in Australia.

However, there is another one you might like to try. It is Black Pearl Epicure. They used to specialise in caviar products until 'the troubles' but now they have expanded their range considerably. They exist at http://www.blackpearl.com.au.

I know they sell cheese starter kits in the US, but as I live in Singapore and travel most frequently to Oz, I wondered whether such things were available there. Rennet is on top of my list, preferably in dry form.

Can you buy stuff like that in retail shops in Oz?

Thanks!

Home Gourmet is another internet provider I have just heard about recently; I haven't used them though.
