How true. This is a terrfic idea. It's severly inpractical to ask for a complete catalogue of everyone's Permamnent Collection, but naming new additions makes sense.

It adds to the vicarious thrill.

I have about 150 cookbooks. I thought I had a lot but from reading this thread, I think my collection barely qualifies as a starter collection.

I buy cookbooks and usually read them cover to cover like any other book. I figure I get my value for money if it is interesting/entertaining/educational/inspirational even if I never use a recipe from the book.

Need to buy more cookbooks...Need to buy more cookbooks...Need to buy more cookbooks...Need to buy more cookbooks...

Looking at my shelves, only about 30-40 total - but they include Escoffier, LaRousse, Bocuse, McGee, Keller, Peterson, Kamman, Child, CIA, David, Pepin, Soltner, Sokolov, Saulnier, Hazan, Dornenburg, Ruhlman...

In other words, if I never acquire another, I will die before tapping these out. :wink:

I got 27 more at the Friends of the Library sale and gave only one to Matthew and Laurie. All were great deals, but the 1st edition Mary and Vincent Price for $5 was a thrill. I'll list the rest in a later post when I can see the spines. The new bookshelves will be built in a week. It will be so fun to arrange all 3500ish by my own quirky system.

Hey, Jude. I believe you are the record-holder on this thread. When you get a chance could you please tell us about your quirky method of cookbook organization? By topic? Date published? Color of spine?

And how long do you think it will take you to organize them all? New bookcases. Sigh. How lovely!

Maggie, add another one to the total. Over the summer, my mom picked up a Rachael Ray cookbook.

I think silver suits me so...

...but red is also for me!

Iron Chef Morimoto all the way!
