Is it just me? Taking photos in a fine dining establishment?

My daughters and I are headed to downtown Vancouver to take in Jesus Christ Superstar but before that we are going to Le Crocodile, my favourite special occaision place. As much as I want to share my meal with you all, I feel like it is kind of tacky to be taking photos. I'm old school, what do you think?

If you are discreet about it, it should be OK. It's the idiots with the DSLRs and long lenses who stand on chairs to get the "best angle" that should be shot. I have three DSLRs and several lenses, but only ever take restaurant shots using my cell phone (without flash).

Respect other customers and your guests and I don't see a problem.

You can do it discretely...no flash and no fuss.

It can be annoying to your dinner companions, though. We had a friend (now deceased) who wouldn't let anyone start eating before he photographed (with 2 or 3 exposures) every plate on the table. With a large group that got very cumbersome--by the time he was finished some of your food would be at a less-than-ideal temperature. Fortunately we all liked him, so we tolerated it (mostly).

I concur with the group, mostly. It's simple: If you feel it's tacky, don't do it. We appreciate your wanting to share your meal, but a written description would be more than welcome. And it's not like we have a shortage of food pics.

Thank you. I did take pictures with my phone, no flash and I was discreet. We had a rather early seating so the restaurant was not full when we arrived but by the time we left there wasn't an empty table. I will post in the Western Canada dining forum.

we did dinner at Morimoto's last night - been on my list for 3-4 years....

I took pix.  no one objected

on the other hand, there was a ~10 party group, drunk, loud, screeching females, ear splitting guffaws . . .
continuous, non-stop....

we requested to be re-seated.  worked, sorta' - but their obnoxious behavior could not be ignored or missed.
other customers were canceling orders and requesting their check.
absolutely ruined the whole dining experience for the entire restaurant.

so, take as many pix as you like - there's definitely a lot of worse behavior.

I'd say the best calamari - tempura batter type prep - greens dressed separately so no calamari was 'saturated'

A few months ago, my sisters and I had dinner at an upscale restaurantand it was really lovely until the table next to us arrived. One lout actually stood up on the banquette and walked behind two of his companions, then hopped down onto the floor in order to get up from the table. This was greeted with loud cheers and laughter from his friends. I couldn't believe my eyes.
