Carp is often misspelled as crap on translated menus here. There are those who think that it is a fair assesssment. I only half agree.

According to all my pronunciation guides, 'crappie' and 'crappy' are pronounced the same. But I've never encountered the species. It is North American.

I've eaten crappy fish, though. Unfortunately.

I've always heard it pronounced CRAW-pee.

One of my favorite fish. And a lot of fun to catch if you get into a school of them.

In south Louisiana, the Cajun French name for crappie is sac-a-lait, and is the accepted name by all. Even non-Cajuns.

I used to live by the largest lake in Kansas and they would (maybe still do) have a fishing contest once a year with money awarded to anyone who caught and turned in alive various crappie who had been tagged.  The biggest money award fish was caught by someone who didn't know there was a prize and filleted the fish.

I made Mongolian Beef for dinner.  Charlie said it was good.

Jerusalem artichokes and mushrooms sauted in butter, with wine, thyme, garlic, pepper. Aged Gouda.

Pasta with ricotta and nuts (walnuts, hazelnuts), Parmesan, nutmeg and marjoram.

Wine and a lettuce salad.

freezer diving last night. Had a 2lb chunk of smoked pork butt vacuum sealed.

Defrosted and pulled and crisped in a cast iron pan. added some bbq sauce.

With homemade cole slaw, and pickle slices (not homemade)

the Fontsainte Corbieres Rose was really good with it

Last night we had breakfast for dinner. My omelets aren’t pretty, but they taste good. Spinach and goat cheese omelet, bacon, toast, and mushrooms.

Pork marinated in white wine and olive oil with garlic and Shichimi Togarishi. Stir fried and finished with chopped scallions. Okra boiled in salted water for two minutes, allowed to cool somewhat and dressed with olive oil. Rice. Chili sauce.

@Shelby – the dressing on that salad is just Wishbone French.  Every so often I go back to the 1970s and crave it.

 

RE: Crappie.  My dad used to catch these on the Eastern shore where they are pronounced CRAP-ee.  And are giggle inducing to little kids. 

 

@patti's beautiful shrimp and grits inspired me.  So, on Tuesday:

On Wednesday, Mr. Kim had his 2nd vaccine shot today and didn’t feel like eating much.  He got a grilled cheese and I decided on a fried egg sandwich with lots of butter.  Gorgeous egg from my SIL’s chickens:
