Unfortunately no - we haven't started packing the kitchen yet... they're just gone.  I don't think the place was called Shabu Shabu - but they also had that on the menu.

I have both. The one used for the Sukiyaki is an electric model, but the one I frequently use for the hotpot is an electric induction burner with different pans (including the yin/yang shaped one I prefer).

To prevent at least major mishaps on the table, I have fixed an electric cord running from the wall outlet to the leg of our table (with a lot of cable binders and some slack for the cable between the binders), and connect any tabletop appliance to that cable. In case of a trip it won‘t affect the burner/electric pan.

Last night was going to be meatloaf but I forgot to lay out the venison burger, so it was ribs instead with green beans, tomatoes and garlicky parmesan cheese and shells.

I have a power bar permanently mounted to the underside of my desktop for exactly that reason.

 

As/if/when I get to build the place I'm slowly planning, I will definitely make some provision for power in the island (assuming there is one...at present I'm leaning in that direction) and if not in the table itself, then at least "table-adjacent."

I picked it up at the Asian Market (the market was a new place for us...probably won't be going there again.  I posted about it on the Food in the time of pandemic thread lol).  It was labeled Banh Mi so I figured it was the right stuff.  At my usual market they are smaller loaves--like individual sandwich size.  This was a long loaf like enough for 3 sandwiches at least.

Nice to have. Current island has a duplex outlet on both ends. The GFI plug in the waste bin cabinet puzzled me - trash compactor ready I guess. 

ETA: house is on foundation with good crawl space so easy to stub up.

Yes, that's what I have - still haven't used it, but I suppose it's time, as these dishes are favorites of ours.

While it's always best to be safe, most people here today have free standing induction cookers for  their very popular hotpots. Trailing cables are common, but I've never heard of anyone pulling one over and causing mayhem. I think that, in the event of a trip, the plug is more likely to pull out than the cooker and pot to fall from the table.

 

I have the same set-up and never had a problem.

I would also not expect too many issues, however with a 7 year old in a hotpot frenzy or a global EHS responsible after his second 4-go of sake it is better to err on the safe side 😉

As you know, I just moved. Things arrived at the new place that were definitely 'just gone' months or years ago at the old place! Just today, I found my Japanese ginger grater which I hadn't seen for around three years!

Well, then there was the time in the country when I was bringing a huge stainless bowl of hot buttered popcorn from kitchen to main room. forgot I had put up the "kiddie gate" in the entrance I used to keep the cat from underfoot, crashed through the gate, knocking it aside, threw bowl and a gallon of popped corn into and across room....plied the cat off the ceiling where it felt it was safe...     Murphy's law.

Anyone who has had one of those in a doorway probably has a similar story. 28 years ago and my torn thumb tendon still screams at me most days. I can trip over my own 2 feet so @Duvel 's use of the ties etc appeals. 

Scheduled power outage all day tomorrow so planning the eating day now.

Sunday night is pizza night, but ...

 

I bought a rather large piece of „Dicke Rippe“ (pork breast tip), that needed to be cooked. So, why not combine ? I braised the pork in soy/wine/aromatics to make a very aromatic version of red cooked pork and made some „mo‘s“, which were cooked on the pizza steel ...

Came home from all afternoon biking and cooked this meal in one pan. Squash dumplings were made in advance and vacuum sealed so they only needed to warm up in the same pan.

A cookathon day, doing some meal prep...roasted a couple of split chicken breasts (simple salt/pepper/onion powder/paprika rub), baked tofu squares brushed with “vegetarian oyster sauce” from Wegmans (just a mushroomy umami flavor). For dinner we had turkey meatballs that bake in a vinegary sauce (threw some carrots in at the halfway point) and kale salad.

No pics 😥 but mahi fillets cooked in the Darto pan with  sweet potato cubed up and roasted in the counter oven, along with a mixed green salad.    And wine!
