"There is no sincerer love than the love of food."  -George Bernard Shaw, Man and Superman, Act 1

"Imagine all the food you have eaten in your life and consider that you are simply some of that food, rearranged."  -Max Tegmark, physicist

Gene Weingarten, writing in the Washington Post about online news stories and the accompanying readers' comments: "I basically like 'comments,' though they can seem a little jarring: spit-flecked rants that are appended to a product that at least tries for a measure of objectivity and dignity. It's as though when you order a sirloin steak, it comes with a side of maggots."

"...in the mid-’90s when the internet was coming...there was a tendency to assume that when all the world’s knowledge comes online, everyone will flock to it. It turns out that if you give everyone access to the Library of Congress, what they do is watch videos on TikTok."  -Neil Stephenson, author, in The Atlantic

Pancakes: Is there anything they can't do?

Quote

Two prisoners in Virginia managed to escape their cell by digging a hole through a wall with the aid of a toothbrush but were apprehended within a few hours after being tempted to visit a pancake restaurant.

...

...the two men were quickly found after being spotted by members of the public at an Ihop, a branch of the popular pancake chain whose name is short for International House of Pancakes.

At yesterday's Wisconsin-Oregon NIT basketball game, in Eugene. (The student holding the sign now has to repeat English 101 in order to graduate. ^_^)

Haha. Perhaps "overated" is a neologism, meaning "eaten too much, past tense".  🙄

As an oldie this on Facebook amused me. I quote

Quote
I know I shouldn’t have done this, but I am 83 years old and I was in the McDonald’s drive-through this morning and the young lady behind me leaned on her horn and started mouthing something because I was taking too long to place my order.

So when I got to the first window, I paid for her order along with my own. The cashier must have told her what I'd done because as we moved up she leaned out her window and waved to me and mouthed "Thank you.", obviously embarrassed that I had repaid her rudeness with kindness.

When I got to the second window I showed them both receipts and took her food too.

Now she has to go back to the end of  the queue and start all over again.

Don't blow your horn at old people, they have been around a long time.

The AI program "Midjourney" is still unclear about how to eat spaghetti. There are a bunch of pictures on the website; this is just one of them.

Doing some research to buy a new digital thermometer.

Reading questions and answers for one promising model, a potential buyer asks, " Can this meat thermometer be used as a rectal thermometer?".

The manufacturer's tech support answers, "We don't recommend that use. However, if you insist, I suggest you consider buying two."
