When I first saw the picture I thought to myself....roasting pickles with a chicken....now that's interesting!

Then I looked closer and saw they were taters incognito.

Ha!  And the rather, ummmm, phallic looking object...the neck!

Grilled tuna outdoors, roasted white-fleshed sweet potatoes after tossing with grainy mustard, oil, paprika, salt. Standard issue salad. Only have a photo of the potatoes, they were really good.

I like the sweet potato treatment especially the grainy mustard. Will try it. I have not had the light fleshed in some time - do you find them less sweet and maybe more starchy then the orange fleshed?

Definitely more starchy, not watery like the orange ones often are. These had purple skin, I left some of the peel on, we like it. I cooked them at 400 for 20 minutes, stirred/flipped pieces, then another 13 minutes. Sheet pan lined with non-stick aluminum foil.

Orecchiette w de-cased pork sausage, cubed chick breast, spinach, red pepper,  G&O pesto sc topped w a blasphemous shaving of smoked gouda w added an interesting profile (largely a result of someone forgetting to replenish the DAMN GRATED CHEEESE! : )

We had some potatoes that needed to be used... so I got a Wagyu sirloin steak, it was ~350g, so I cut it in half and had it over 2 days.

Cooked sous vide at 130F, then seared in hot peanut oil, potatoes done in the steam oven and smashed with butter and sour cream.

I now get why salt with high end steaks is so popular, the larger grains of the peruvian pink with each piece of the wagyu was really good.

Not pictured, a glass of Syrah from Whitehall Lanes worked nice with this meat and potatoes dish.

P.S. I miss my cat pictured in my avatar... she would have eaten the extra fatty/grizzly parts of the steak I didn't.  Our remaining cat (who is 20 years old) won't without throwing it right now.

@Shelby – gorgeous fries (and you had FOUR😳😄).

@Margaret Pilgrim – every single item in that pork tenderloin/potato/sprout meal looks wonderful, but especially those sprouts!

@liuzhou – thank you so much for sharing that meal and ceremony with us.

@Duvel – love the gyros!  I really wish I could find that bread here.  Restaurants have it, but I never see it in stores – they just have pita pockets or lavash.

Friday - The start of a delicious weekend thanks to Mr. Kim:

He was so busy trimming and rubbing and wrapping that we decided to do pick up.  After all of the talk of gyros here this past week, I requested gyros and falafel.  From the very good, casual and reasonable Zara Mediterranean Charcoal Grill.   My plate:

IMG_3598.jpg.9053c6ffe99c106d025a4345c14ab39f.jpg

Gyros, falafel, hummus (from Aldi), and tzatziki.  Mr. Kim had the steak kabob sandwich:

I love how they make a little “salad” out of chopped up tomatoes and lettuce – makes a better “bite” than the leaves of lettuce and slices of tomatoes that some other places do.

Mr. Kim smoked 3 pork butts on Saturday:

We took some to his mom and his dad and stepmom on Sunday.  Finally, last night it was our turn for BBQ.  The meat was so good – really moist with a really balanced smokiness.  BBQ:

Steamed in the CSO – best way of reheating that we’ve found.  Served with some of my Brunswick Stew from the freezer:

And slaw and fries:

And various go-withs:

Another multiple meal night here.  My sister and my husband both wanted fried seafood, so they got take out fried whole belly clams, fried calamari, and fries.  My nephew really wanted takeout from his favorite pizza place, but they were not answering the phone, so he settled for a prosciutto, arugula, and fresh mozzarella sandwich.  I wanted (close to) vegetarian so made a sort of banh mi with an omelet flavored with fish sauce, cilantro and chili, and pickles made from carrot and watermelon radish, plus sriracha mayo and cilantro.  I only took a picture of my sandwich.  The bread is not right but I use what I can get these days.

Well, as I was scrolling through catching up on this thread, my cat who is on my lap kept trying to bite my iPad. I think that means he approves of your cooking!

Last night Mrs M made tomato veggie soup (roasted all the veg and blended) with open faced grilled cheese. This was an outstanding meal for the creeping chill that’s in the evening air around these parts.

Now you're also killing me.

We've had a chicken brining for a couple of days.  Fried chicken for Sunday dinner.

With steamed buns.  These were store bought and steamed from frozen and they were awful.

Glad I had made some egg rolls because we couldn't eat the buns.

@Kim Shook: that’s just my standard pizza dough, rolled out a bit thinner, brushed liberally with olive oil and cooked on the griddle pan ...

Grilled swordfish tacos

We went to a new-to-us beach today for a long walk.  Ballston Beach in Truro.  Absolutely gorgeous.  I was struck by this house on dunes edge.  I wonder how many years it has before it goes down the cliff.  Dune erosion is a huge issue on the Outer Cape.  There was a single storm a few years ago that eroded 30 feet of dune on the ocean side of Wellfleet.
