Dinner 2020

@Duvel

nice on the fish

nice on the mackerel and the matjes

now that Ive buttered you up

so to speak

suprise.gif.a80704ac6aefb0dde871e160297e6500.gif

and never one to Question ones Personal Beverages

Ive noted you like ' Scotch '

in the version ' HighBall '

fine.  Im not much of a Spirits drinker

so do not want to get out of line.

my family and I spent the summer driving around GB , Scotland , Ireland

the summer before I went to college .

we stayed at B&B's   .

in Scotland the B&B  was more magnificent , maybe a rundown Castle

in the DrawingRoom , or the room w the fire going

[ it was freeing cold in Scotland in August , BTW ]

there was an Earl , a real Earl.    I think there are lots of them

roaming around  BTW.  very tweedy also.

he taught me how to drink Scotch Whisky :

at most , as a 1/2 and 1/2      your Scotch diluted w room temp water

room temp there was pretty cold.  hence the many little jugs of water in Pubs

jugs w sponsorship from the various Whisky Houses

I have a bottle of

https://www.thewhiskyexchange.com/p/3121/lagavulin-16-year-old

I needed it to follow the Very Fine Show :

https://en.wikipedia.org/wiki/Endeavour_(TV_series)

I added very cold water , 1/4 to the Scotch

so I could follow what Morse etc were doing

now that you are exhausted :

if you add ' HighBall ' amounts of water , w ice

are you not diluting the Essence of Fine Scotch ?

can you still taste the difference between Fine , and Mighty Fine ?

I remember your posts on visiting a Whisky establishment in Japan

and enjoyed that ' trip ' you presented.

is there some point that you add less water ?

pls take no offense at my questions.

Personal on P.Beverages should always be Personal.

I usually drink my whiskey neat, or on ice (provided only little dilution, i.e. with large round ice spheres).
But to stay with the Japanese theme, I do like highballs - one part whiskey, 2-3 parts sparkling water, plenty of ice.

Its refreshing and yes: you are able to appreciate the nuances of the whiskey. Otherwise I wouldn’t use my Yamazaki 12 for it  😉 ...

@BonVivant …. Thank you so much!!  My grad school roommate introduced me to Franken wines that really weren't that sweet.   The glass also looks almost like the two my husband inherited from his grandmother though both have little paintings or transfers of Heidelberg Castle on them .

Nothing is better than frying in lard.

Nothing.  Do not quote me on this.

consider trying one of your

' better ' whiskey's

in the manner of Whisky :

very cold water   ( I use cold Tap w a few ice cube in it , swirl it aroud )

w the Scotch  + 1/4 by volume the above water.  no ice

in a Baccarat Whisky glass :

Avocado and mushroom and, yes, more of that intoxicating Blenheim balsamic and drizzle of bleed orange EVOO.   Baguette slices to sop up the OMG...

Cauliflower, anchovy, Meyer lemon penne, blatantly stolen from WSJ.    Bright flavors.    Will repeat.

Oh I miss my Waterford. Too many tipsy clumsy people over time. Takes an unfortunate  talent to break them.... I even gave sister a glass at first pregnancy to remind her to hydrate.

Pizza for dinner last night.
Same day dough. Made early in the morning and then given a cold fermentation in the fridge for 5 hours and then left to warm up and rise on the counter for three hours before using.

600g batch at 80% hydration.
Enough dough for two large pizzas.

I really have to start remembering to take pictures, now that I'm semi-cooking again after about three months of not doing so.

Last night the child wanted spaghetti. So I threw together a quick ragu and cooked some angel hair. She was content. Sauce wasn't half bad. Lots left; we may be talking pizza in a few days.

Simple dinner.  Dinning solo.  Used a 6 oz burger to make two small sliders as I had two dinner rolls on the counter.  A little tomato jam, pickle and gouda to top it off.   Domestic single barreled rum to sip with dinner

Nope, we are beyond that. These days its the beloved Otfried Preußler classic "Das kleine Gespenst" ...

Thank you!  I put in a request from the library.  Though I can't imagine this story has the same beneficent effect on little ones as Hansel and Gretel or The Pied Piper.  (However I have been through Hameln and can report I saw neither rats nor children.)

Dinner here was pizza:

Last night the boys had Curried Sausages. While the hub says I'm getting ever closer to the perfect flavour (without a packet mix), I still can't make it look any better 😁
