I just don't want to look back and think "I could have eaten that."

Unsupervised, rebellious, radical agrarian experimenter, minimalist penny-pincher, and adventurous cook. Crotchety, cantankerous, terse curmudgeon, non-conformist, and contrarian who questions everything!

The best thing about a vegetable garden is all the meat you can hunt and trap out of it!

  1. Meat fat.  Almost any meat fat.
  2. Dairy fat.
  3. Non-meat/non-dairy fats with a taste.  [Not all of them are true "favorite", but any of them would be used rather than no-fat at all. I recognize that this is a different question, but . . . .]
  4. ONION.
  5. MUSHROOM.
  6. Salt (I can hear the critique of this choice, but I'm standing by it).
  7. Pickle.
  8. Orange.
  9. The bite of mustard greens.  [I think this bite is in other greens too, but it is perfection in mustard greens.]
  10. Hot peppers.  Basic, good ole' cayenne might be my favorite, honestly.

Top 11, in no particular order:

  • Coconut (raw and "flowery" more so than toasted and nutty)
  • Tahini
  • Vanilla with cream / ricotta / other milky goodies
  • Rose water (with a hint of lemon or with berries)
  • Basil, with tomatoes
  • Espresso coffee
  • Caramelized onions
  • Toasted nuts (esp. hazelnuts, walnuts, pistachios and almond. The latter only if they're really good)
  • Cheese, if I had to choose one, than a good nutty and grassy Emmentaler (that's flavor-wise, taste wise I prefer a nice moldy ewe-milk cheese)
  • Beer (a good Belgian ale, or a not-to-bitter IPA, tough a good porter, amber ale and German wheat beers are close by)
  • Lychee

Honorable mentions:

  • Bread (wheat based, preferably spiced with some other grains and nuts)
  • Grilled/sauteed mushrooms (with butter)
  • Olive oil (even more so when coupled with garlic)
  • Dark chocolate
  • Tarragon, mint, anise and the like
  • Fresh and brined cheeses - ricotta, sirene, feta, mozzarella (when cooked)
  • Cumin
  • Fenugreek
  • Maple
  • Mango
  • Pineapple
  • Plums, esp. those with a bitter almond edge to them

So hard to choose :( That's not even covering stuff that are a combination of flavors e.g. five spice mixture and various spice & herbs blends used in Indian and Southeast Asia cousins, which I adore.

1- water, not a joke, there's nothing more satisfying than drinking water when you need it
2- strawberries, the small ones just picked from the plant, not the huge flavorless crap found in stores
3- wild blackberries, huge pita to collect but they taste like the sun
4- "verdoni", a kind of green plum similar to greengage and reine claude
5- mulberries, if I were forced to choose then I would pick the white ones over the black ones
6- figs, when in season I can't stop eating them
7- radicchio tardivo, the best vegetable we grow in this region
8- carrots, when I was a child I loved going in the garden, picking a carrot from the soil, washing it and eating it raw
9- tonka beans, I used them in many pastries and loved all them
10- ylang ylang, such an inebriating aroma

I can live without meat, fish and cheese, but don't touch my fruit.

"There are, it has been said, two types of people in the world. There are those who say: this glass is half full. And then there are those who say: this glass is half empty. The world belongs, however, to those who can look at the glass and say: What's up with this glass? Excuse me? Excuse me? This is my glass? I don't think so. My glass was full! And it was a bigger glass!" Terry Pratchett

I whistfully mentioned how I missed sushi. Truly horrified, she told me "you city folk eat the strangest things!", and offered me a freshly fried chitterling!
