Kerry is currently living a 10-year-old’s dream. She is going hellbent for leather, lights flashing and sirens screaming to Sudbury. Lord knows when she’ll get home.

Hellbent for leather, such a great phrase!  First time I've heard it; and will be using it first chance I get!

Kerry is on her way back now at a somewhat slower pace.

So the Tex-Mex plan gave way to the sort of Irish plan.  Potato chips instead of corn chips.

 Dressed to my fashion standards.

I've never dressed up potato chips before. I'll put it on the list. (maybe a nice frock for the weekend?)

I think Jo is having us on a bit. But I could be wrong and your theory was my theory if the story had some credibility. Jo always comes through so I’ll just stay patiently by my iPad, iPhone, and iWatch, watching.

This time Jo came through slightly wrong.  Indeed the first responder was former U-boat* officer Captain Paul Mueller.  But he responded to the breakup, explosion, and sinking of the SS Carl D. Bradley.  At the time the SS Edmund Fitzgerald was about 100 miles away.

I can't unsee the U-boat in Kerry's picture.

Tacos filled with peccadillo and cheddar cheese. They seemed to go down rather well

Hey, I see it too, but, on the bright side, you sent me down the googleish wormhole and I now know more Great Lakes shipping history (and how the lakes are linked) than I did before.

Thank you!

That is the downside of using the dictation function. Of course a little serious copy editing might have caught that.

All is good. Kerry had to return to the hospital and she has all the photos. I had two cocktails — that is all ye know on earth of that and all ye need to know (with apologies to Keats).

Things brought home from work this morning. They know to bring me their bananas that are past it. No picture of the banana blueberry bread - it's in the freezer waiting for it's Monday morning debut.

Applied the Esquire Formula again - perhaps not as successful as before - Anna felt it would be a waste for me to bin mine so she took one for the team and drank it for me.

I reused the cherries from drink one and made drink two. It allowed me to create 3 dead soldiers. two Canadian whisky, one aperol. A much more satisfactory tipple.

Dave Arnold's version 2. Pectinase enzyme (used the vintner's version) for an hour or so, cooked 14 min 30 seconds in 3% brine, fried 170 until firm, fried 195 until done.

We didn't care for them. Way too salty, not crispy enough. Next experiments - I'd like to do the same but a less briny brine and only water blanched until done.

We had some strip loin and some chuck eye sous vided in the freezer, long enough in warm water in the sink to thaw, quick brown on the BGE. Garlic butter on ciabatta buns, quick trip on the BGE and dinner is served.

Yeah, I buy most of my bananas from the clearance rack. I like 'em dead ripe and leopard-spotted.

Today was a red-letter day...omw home from dropping grandkids, I passed by a produce wholesaler and saw a stack of banana boxes in the parking lot, with a sign that said "free bananas - help yourself." So I got a big bunch of the least-overripe ones for myself, and another for my neighbour who runs a day home, and one for grandkids. Then when I got home I thought "well that was stupid..." so I went back and grabbed a whole case. The ones that haven't gone to neighbours (there are a lot kids, and a lot of single moms, in my building) will go into my deep freeze and be used for a summer's worth of banana "ice cream" and baked goods.

The second of the apples whose labels fell off! Almost certain this is the Envy. I loved the texture. It was crisp and juicy. I don’t think it was as tasty as the Jazz which I had the other day. This, regrettably, is the last of the Unexpected Cheddar from Trader Joe’s. I am hooked on this cheese and we are a long, long way from any Trader Joe’s.

Since Kerry is doing a 24 hour shift in emergency we don’t plan any formal or even informal meals.  We just feed ourselves as best we can.  There is something to be said for both ways of feeding one’s face!  We can each have things the other doesn’t like.

Right now I am plotting a melange of Cuban Picadillo and Mexican? Texan? nachos with a nice Wisconsin cheddar.

Needed to deal with the remaining red currants before the black ones ripen.

So made some jelly.

Barney's had freebie potatoes, peppers and broccoli today. Got Anna some more noodles as she quite enjoyed these ones.

A few items from the grocery store.

A trip to the fishmonger was a bust - no Nova Scotia lobsters left! I should have gone out earlier.
