Mascarpone as sub for clotted cream?

I am watching "Barefoot Contessa" and she just suggested using mascarpone as a substitute for clotted cream.  I Googled it and found lots of suggestions for mascarpone plus whipping cream and some suggesting a little sugar.  Has anyone tried this?  I fell in love with clotted cream in England and would love to find something here that I could use.

I've tried some of the recipes on this website with success including making cream cheese and cottage cheese.  Here the chef gives a recipe for making clotted cream.  I've not tried it.  I have no idea of what clotted cream even tastes like...but you could try it. https://www.biggerbolderbaking.com/clotted-cream-recipe/
