We returned to the Iron Horse Restaurant in Ashland, VA for today’s lunch: Meatloaf with French Beans, Whipped Potatoes and a Maker’s Mark Whiskey Gravy. This was The Best Meatloaf I have ever had. I asked our Waiter to ask the Chef if he could, please, share his recipe. No promises made, and no quantities given, but we did get this list of ingredients and instructions to cook at 350F to internal temp of 145F. I’ll take what I can get!

Chili powder. Interesting.

Don't ask. Eat it.

Crayfish Chaos.

Boiled crayfish with chilli. Lots of chilli. Two of us got through this lot designed for an entire extended family! Beer was also consumed. We are sensible!

Looks about reasonable to me.

Arkansas IS, after all, next door to Louisiana. Can't get through a spring without at least ONE crawfish boil. But they should have potatoes, corn on the cob, and chunks of Andouille sausage in there as well.

Don't ask. Eat it.

Perhaps, but I loathe corn; Chinese potatoes aren't great and there is a surprising shortage of Andouille sausage. 😄

Mostly leftovers. Miso-glazed sweet potatoes, breaded chicken with ”tonkatsu” sauce and some steamed broccoli.

Had a michigan and potato chips for lunch

IMG_8150.thumb.jpg.54951f6dcda3c2383b8ae5a9b273a01c.jpg

A michigan is a hot dog with a squiggle of mustard, topped with a mildly spicy meat sauce. Can be ordered "wit,"  "wit buried" or  "witout," all referring to the addition or absence of raw, chopped onion.

My michigan above is wit buried.

Procured from Clare & Carl's

I took the photo above yesterday AM, before they opened for lunch.  The parking lot is usually filled with cars while they're open. They have car-hop service but my brother picked up ours to-go.  I had one, he ate three.

Could have just as easily posted this in dinner, as it was mid afternoon and will likely serve for both.

Seconds may have been involved. Followed by watermelon for dessert. I'm comatose.

Mango Salsa!  We made this last week without any heat and I thought this might be good with addition of a Fatalii pepper!

It is! It's a very small Fatalii Pepper, Mango, Red Pepper, Red Onion, Cilantro, Lime Juice, Salt. It's very hot but the Mango tempers the heat.

Another lunch assembled courtesy of the Shoprite across the street...a bit of leftover feta I had brought in from home and purchased a fresh Portuguese roll (pulled out the "guts" to give me space to pile on the goods) and some odds/ends from the salad bar (marinated artichokes, mushrooms, red pepper, olives, romaine, tomato) and made a nice veggie sandwich for a 99 degree day.

Just back from buying more lobsters in Rhode Island for tonight and I decided on a late breakfast / early lunch of ramen.

Something about the combination of the flavor packet, the hot chili oil and the kimchi makes the broth irresistible to me.

Not cooking a lot lately - eating mostly at restaurants, for lunch especially.  Got a special request from Mr. Kim, though - chicken salad.  So we had croissants for lunch:

Walmart is selling all-butter croissants now and I thought it was worth a try.  Surprise, surprise they are NOT croissants.  The flavor was decent, but the texture was all off, of course.  But my throw-together chicken salad was pretty good!

From the popular installment "Canteen meals in rural Korea" today part 14a: Ulsan.

Kimchi, more Kimchi, bean sprout salad, pork patties with egg & spring onion, some local fish stewed with Kimchi, rice with beans and seaweed soup. Dessert was the Korean version of Yakult.

The Dat Fries look wonderful, and I'd always be up for trying a Guinness Sausage Special.

To cut a long story short, I had 20 minutes to prepare, cook and eat lunch. "Work is the curse of the drinking classes" © Oscar Wilde (maybe).

Chopped some chicken, some oyster mushrooms, some white chillies, garlic. Doused in Shaoxing wine. Stir fried with fresh ramen noodles. Ate. Ran.
