 Probably and regrettably the final iteration of the leftovers from here.   Roast beef, a yorkie and some gravy.  Sure did hit the spot.

I usually snap them on my dining table during the day with natural lighting from a window, and a simple soft light from the other side. Nothing really fancy :)

We had a work lunch and a birthday party at this place about a 10 minute walk from the office earlier today...

 

It's a handsome room and the food is great, and I'll probably return with B at some future point.

Lunch today was a disgrace. I was busy. No time to cook or even eat out. In a dire emergency I ate what I call "train noodles" as they were often the only food you could easily eat on the 24-36 hour or longer train journeys across China. Thankfully now bullet trains and a developed air service have largely replaced those trains. Liuzhou to Guangzhou used to take 26 hours. Now it's 4 hours by train. Beijing was 36 hours. Now  just around 10.

In remembrance of Anthony Bourdain, we had fried hot dogs for a late lunch. I don't know if the kind he had were done differently. I just deep fried some to see  what they would be like.  Despite Frank Fritz of American Pickers assessment of people who have chili on their hot dogs are people who don't like hot dogs, I had chili on one with cheese and onions and only hot dog relish on the other. Charlie had one extra from the microwave and assured me that fried hot dogs do taste better BTW.

Nothing as good as a hot dog!  Can’t remember when I last had one.  Wish one could buy them as singles....I remember a grocery store many years ago had them indivually packaged in a plastic wrap tube.  I can get the German Weiners indivually and they are an OK substitute.

I actually miss the German Weiners available where I used to live. I like them better than "plain pork" hot dogs.  Not only would it be nice if they sold them one at a time, it would be nice, since hot dogs come in an 8 pack if they sold 8 buns instead of 10 at a time.

We watched  the No Reservations marathon yesterday and the CNN tribute to Tony Bourdain last night. He always seemed the happiest while fishing around with chopsticks, in a brothy concoction of noodles and UFO's. I paid my small tribute to the man with a similar lunch today.

Found myself in Memphis, so stopped by my favorite MIddle Eastern deli. Falafel wrap, dressed with lettuce, tomato, dill pickle (!) and tzatziki. Dolmades. Baklava. Brought some of all of it home. Will revisit that today.

Yesterday lunch with friends at a nearby diner.  Pastrami Reuben along with a salad from their great salad bar...one of the few that are still around here.

Quick lunch (and last meal) before heading back to Hong Kong: mixed grilled sushi, the Hokkaidō special and a Negitoro temaki. Came with a large draft beer for some reason ... Will be a happy flight ;)

As a result of my conversation with a lady who runs the seafood dept. at a local supermarket, I got a text this morning: "Soft Shell Crabs are in!!!" The whole idea of breakfast vanished and I was on the road within minutes, and back home for an early lunch within the hour.

It has been a late and screwy season, so far. Most places will not put them in their flyer, because they never know if they will come in. Getting the text message was something I asked for and they were happy to oblige. They told me they had to throw out half of the previous minimum shipment. She jokingly told me that myself and her husband were the only buyers, but without a heads up from the flyer, word just isn't out that they are there and such a perishable item can't just wait around to be discovered.
