Omurice don — Fried rice, conventionally made with chicken but in my case made with duck, dished into a bowl (don)  and topped with a (for me) duck egg omelette.

Treated myself to breakfast after the farmers' market this morning. Bacon, eggs, toast, hash browns, orange juice, coffee. Finally got hungry again about 3.

Nothing noteworthy, but awfully good. This little diner is Da Bomb.

Mushroom toban yaki. I am stretching definitions a bit here.  My understanding is that the vessel (toban) is traditionally ceramic.   Since I don’t have such dish and if I did it would not work on my induction range, I substituted a similarly shaped cast iron dish.

For those who have an interest in such things here’s a little bit about the vessel:

A relatively elaborate breakfast for me.

  • Eggs in puff pastry
  • Potato and shallot home fries
  • Avocado
  • Bloody Mary made with Tito's and Camaronazo (the latter is apparently some kind of shrimp version of Clamato)

I found the Camaronazo in the Mexican foods aisle at a nearby supermarket. It's pretty good, although the shrimp flavor isn't very forward. It's bottled in the U.S. and has HFCS, so I suspect it's more Mexican-American than truly Mexican. I've also used it for micheladas.

Before I quite had my eyes open this morning I was asked if I could produce cookies for a “do”, my daughter will be attending. After an hour or two of slaving over a hot oven, I realized just how hungry I was!  I was not willing to take a lot of time out of my day to make breakfast. But yesterday I had made some Japanese pork which was marinating in the refrigerator. I sliced it up, took the least attractive end piece,  added some pickled cucumbers and some tiny tomatoes and breakfast was ready.
