A trio of salads, picked up from a local caterer yesterday afternoon, because I could and I didn't want to cook. Marvelous pasta salad, nothing-out-of-the-ordinary fruit salad, and really good chicken salad.

Note -- I'd called in an order and was hustling to get there before they closed at 2 on Friday afternoon (they're 25 minutes away and I left at 1:30). Several traffic laws may have been broken. In a rush, when the kid asked me how much I wanted, I said, "a quart of each."

Can I just tell you, a quart of chicken salad is a helluva lot of chicken salad? Anyone want a chicken salad sandwich?

Pretty much the same as yesterday with the addition of some pickled ginger and some pickled Asian pear with lemon.

The next instalment in my occasional series of “incorporating utterly superfluous tumbling blocks in food”: Personal Shepherd’s Pie for my boyfriend (I’m not a fan of it myself, but he loves it, so I make it just for him). With tiles of potato, sweet potato and squash.

Will shut him up for days, this will.

In honor of Tony Bourdain, tonight, I'm making a Singapore Nyonya curry.  It was his shows on Singapore and other places in Asia that sparked my love of travel to those places.  No picture, but I've shown it before - it didn't look any different tonight.

Your boyfriend is one fortunate man. I ain't seen the man yet I'd do that for.

Really no surprises watching the Belmont Stakes. My only regret is not following my instinct to put a few dollars down on the Gronk to place. It did, however, "Justify" my having spaghetti and meatballs for dinner.

Instant Pot Lamb shoulder Thai coconut curry with a few vegetables. Thai basil - trimmings from my pallet garden!

Pan seared tuna steak coated liberally with cracked black pepper and a little aleppo pepper, lemon quinoa/brown rice pilaf from a box mix, salad with lettuce from my co-worker’s garden. Took some extra time cleaning those greens, found some protein hanging out in the leaves!

Thanks to the advice from Okanagancook, Anna N, heidih, kayb and JohnT,  my mussel +'Patagonian scallop dish worked well, even if my wife's flight was over an hour late in returning from  Birmingham.  Just kept adding more wine and reducing until she pulled In then added the shellfish.  Crusty Cuban bread to sop up the sauce

I had mussels and shrimp cocktail in mind for dinner last night, but the P.E.I. mussels in the flyer, were conspicuous by their absence. I was in line behind quite a few peeps, and never really got a good answer from the new kid at the counter, as to why. I had to change plans on the fly and picked these perfectly sized NY strip steaks out instead.

Baked potatoes, sour cream w/ chives and freshly picked sugar snaps from the garden rounded things out nicely.
